Black Sheep :)
I tend to be attracted to stainless guns. However, I wanted one black 1911. I've been reading about finishes, asking Bac questions etc.
I stumbled upon this about a week ago. Read some more and decided to
go buy it today. I hope that I can contact Les Baer and find out exactly when it was made. The night sights are dim enough that I'm guessing it's 7-10 years old. It's in good shape though and doesn't appear to have been shot very much. It's getting shot tomorrow!
Looking through the paperwork I found a sheet that I missed earlier. It's a price list from January 19, 1998. So that's a clue as to the age of the gun. Does anyone have any idea if these could be the original grips on a Baer SRP from that time? Front fiber optic??

As a fellow stainless guy, I must say that gun is gorgeous. I really dig the black trigger as well, and that surprises me.

Maybe the best value out there in a 1911...even 14 years later. Nice one you got there.

Thanks guys. I feel like a little kid on Christmas Eve. I can't wait to shoot
it tomorrow. I'm going to bring the TRP, a Novak Colt and the SRP.
Sitting on the couch I think the Baer has a better trigger than the Novak.
BTW, one of my friends was with me today and bought her first 1911.
We know what that means...

Very nice, Rhonda.
Congrats on a top notch 1911.
Just get a set of cocobolo grips from Baer and you'll be good to go.

No silly, she's going to need a bigger safe! She's shot enough to know about hot brass.

Thanks Brian. Do you have any ideas/opinions on the fiber optic front sight? I'm anxious to call Baer and get the skinny on this gun. I'd like it to be as original as possible.

I don't think either the front sight or the grips are original, but I may be wrong.

The gun shows very little wear. The black is mostly still on the barrel. I'll let you know what I find out. I continue to consult and enjoy your buyer's guide.

It looks great, Rhonda.
The SRP is my favorite Baer 1911.

I took the SRP, the Novak Colt and the TRP to the range this am.
I can't tell any difference in the Colt trigger and the Baer trigger.
I have to really concentrate or they both shoot before I'm ready.
I'm so used to resetting the take up on my other guns, it takes work
to not shoot early with these two guns. I'll post a pic of the first 8 shots
at 10 yds out of the Baer and the first two magazines out of the Colt also at 10 yds.
.
I love them both. Sadly they made the TRP feel 'just ok'.
