New commie shotgun...

I was looking for a cheap beater shotgun to keep at my in-law's lake house since we spend almost every weekend there. Bud's finally got the Norinco (Interstate Arms) 982 Defender back in stock. This is a Remy 870 clone with ghost ring sights. Judging by the numerous reviews I've read on various boards, it's a pretty decent gun. Some folks actually prefer it over the 870 Express due to the GRS, metal trigger guard, machined ejector and extractor (vs. the MIM parts in the Remy). Anyway, I wasn't looking to spend much so this fit the bill nicely. It takes most 870 furniture and accessories. Should be at my FFL on Friday.

All the local shops were asking stupid money for used, beat-to-hell 870's and Mossy 500's so I decided to buy new. It basically came down to the Norinco or a Mossberg Maverick 88. I opted for the 870 clone based on GRS and slightly lower price ($185 vs. $225). Yes, it's a Made in China gun but the Maverick components are mostly Hecho en Mexico.

I've got a wheelbarrow full of 12ga ammo so I'll put it through a torture test and report back. I'm particularly interested to see how it slings magnum slugs and 3" 00 buck.

Since I know it's coming, commence with the "you aren't a patriot" comments at your leisure.

Solid choice comrade! The imperialist 870 is a totally hyped bird gun masquerading as a fighting shotgun in the first place, so by paying a mere $185, you've only paid about as much as such a black bird gun is worth when built by those being reeducated.

Looks good. Are 870 parts interchangeable?

Due to inflation, my $.02 no longer matters.

Looks almost the same as the Stevens 350, except the Stevens is bottom feed, like the Ithaca.

Word is, the Stevens is manufactured by Norinco for Savage.

I would not.
Then again I already have a stable of Remington shotguns.

Looks like a NEF Pardner Protector (China made) with sights. If so, it should serve you pretty well. I've had the Protector for a few years now with zero problems. It will take all 870 parts minus the barrels.

From what I understand, the 982 and Pardner come off the same assembly line.

I guess this is the one product from China where they don't have to worry about lead paint issues.

The pics I took of the gun out of the box were pretty ****ty. This one's not a lot better but it shows the pimp parts I installed this morning. Blackhawk/Knoxx stock and forend. The forend was a PITA to install. The tube on the commie gun is slightly larger in diameter than the 870 the forend is made for. It took a vice and some "finesse" to get it on there.

Anyway, gun shoots beautifully. I put about 20 bird loads through it to make sure everything was GTG. I then ran 15 3" 00 Buck and 15 3" magnum slugs through it. It's pretty accurate and ran without a hiccup.

FWIW, I've got about $280 in the gun as it sits. I still need to add a Wilson +1 tube extension and a side saddle, maybe a sling.
