What do you guys think of the Speer Gold Dot 124gr (not +P).

my buddy got a box of 50 and wanted me to ask - i usually always buy the +p

anyone carry this round?

Why would i want this over the +P round?

Little less recoil, though +P and standard aren't that different. Should be a good round to carry.

I sell a lot of the standard pressure Gold Dot. The market has been shifting in that direction since the 90's.

Still for my company the 9mm +P GD is the best seller in that product line. However for Federal Remington and Winchester the 147 9mm far out sell the medium and light weight +P or +P+ offerings.

ATK's own laboratory comparison tests of their premium JHP self-defense ammos show only slight differences between the standard pressure and +P rounds. The more significant differences are between bonded and non-bonded rounds, depending on the control test medium.

My understanding is the chief advantage of +P pressure is it sometimes adds reliability to the cycling of the slide in some guns. Then again, in other guns the manufacturer warns not to shoot +P ammo.

I would carry the standard pressure 124-grain Speer Gold Dot without any qualms.

The velocity difference between the GD 124 and GD 124+P is only about 50FPS, so performance-wise it's pretty much a toss-up.

I prefer the 124+P variety, but that's mainly for the extra bit of slide velocity it offers, not any real performance advantage.

I would trust either with my life. Speer Gold Dots are a very good round.

I would also trust either round with my life. I bought the +P's because that is all they had for good LEO ammo at the time.

CL - what follows is the data for clothed gelatin
same fields as the bare gelatin, as defined above
avg 2.74 - Average wound volume, clothed and bare gelatin
3.89 re - Free Recoil Energy, assuming a 1.88 lb pistol
0.70 - Average would volume per unit Free Recoil Energy.

I'd say you got the top-of-the-line 9mm JHP self-defense ammo. I'd also say if you had the standard pressure round it would be nearly the equivalent if ATK's own tests are valid.

I haven't found any Speer 124-grain Gold Dot locally but did pick up some standard pressure 115-grain Gold Dot ammo for a micro 9mm I own and I won't worry about it if I ever need to rely on it.
