So I noticed a video from the Shot show saying Tavor would be here this year.

Its what the Israeli military uses these days for those who haven't heard of it. I've thought it was interesting since I first saw it.

Anyone ever shot one or have opinions on it?

I'm curious if its any better than the Steyr or FN bullpups.

How are they going to circumvent the import ban? Come in as parts kits and then the assembler mixes in the appropriate American parts?

I could be wrong, but I believe that was mentioned by a rep in one of the SHOT show videos. Hopefully they'll get it right, I'm very interested in this rifle depending on price.

They already have approval. The U.S. Tavor has been in the works for quite some time and was "almost" a done deal a few years ago before Charles Daly went out of business. Now Daly is back partnering with another company to finally bring the Tavor here.

If they made the entire thing in the US, I think it would end up be more then what most people are willing to pay. Importing it partially assembled would be more viable I think.

Thanks! I bet we will also see a minimum price tag of $2,000 to $2,500. Canadian prices tend to be a little higher than ours.

"Hello All,

Now that SHOT is over and many people have seen, handled and commented on the sample at the show, I think some clarifications should be made to answer some of your questions and hopefully preclude any confusion about this project.

• The US semi-auto Tavor will be manufactured in the US by IWI. Charles Daly and Trans World Arms will not have anything to do with the manufacturing of this firearm.
• It will be made from Israeli imported parts and US sourced parts in full compliance with 922(r).
• The semi-auto construction and engineering has been approved by BATF&E.
• The Tavor accepts AR-15/M-16 mags, including PMags. Which mag will actually be supplied with the Tavor has yet to be decided.
• The sample shown at SHOT, with a 16" barrel and full length Picatinny top rail, is only one configuration that is contemplated. (Actual production of this model will have a 16.5" barrel in order to meet the US minimum 26" OAL.) Other models could include a 18" version with or without the Mepro 21 reflex sight; perhaps to become the "IDF" model.) The number of models to be offered has not been finalized.
• Initial deliveries are projected to be on the market by the end of October, hopefully sooner.
• The projected MSRP (for models without optics) will hopefully stay under $2k.

I like things to be made in America too. But every gun I’ve bought that was made in the USA had to go back to the factory for one reason or another. My Glocks, never a problem. Poor quality control, especially at S&W, will always make people comfortable buying guns from German speaking countries. (Glock, Walther, Sig, Steyr.)

I prefer weapons to be made in countries of origin, generally. Especially military weapons.

If nothing else because that's where it originated.
