Cool but they would have to work on the entry way? 70 people, and some of them old, trying to get in that shelter via a make shift 2x4 ladder might take 15 minutes or more.

I think they might have several concerns
- Water - I thought I saw a drop fall when the reporter was in the shot.

- exit - it opens out - something heavy gets on it and they might not be able to open it.

- Rust

- Toilet

I'm guessing there are others.

If I were to use a bus - I would try to keep it above ground as much as possible and build up sloping dirt around it.

Rain on the ladder...yep saw that. And you are right about the door...they said one tornado threw a trailer...if it lands on the door they are screwed.

One other thing i would suggest...signs. Tell local rescue services about the shelter...maybe one or more large ground level signs indicating a shelter is there. They could get wiped out by the storm...which is why 2 is 1 and 1 is none.

they had the door open so the rain was coming in, would like another exit door, maybe one on each end. Liked the idea though.

Hope it's buried above the water table.

I was thinking about a shipping container for the same thing. My estimate is that it would be cheaper, stronger, and the end doors could be bermed for faster access.
