Glock Picatinny rail

I have a glock 21 with a Picatinny rail. Was this an oddball model? Everyone asks me "where did you get that?" when they see it.

When Glock first released the 21SF, it was with the Pic rail and not the Glock rail. Eventually the 21SF with Glock rail was also introduced, and I believe they phased out of the Pic rail model.

The picatinny rail model was mostly a failure.
-Picatinny rail did not fit standard holsters
-Picatinny rail severely wore leather holsters
-Picatinny rail models had the dreaded ambi-mag release

In the end,......many picatinny rail model frames were replaced due to the ambi mag release

That's a great point that I forgot to mention... holster availability for these SUCKS... or at least it did when I had mine. And the Don Hume model I ended up with got really chewed up inside from the rail.

I have been wanting one for a while. The pic rail just look really cool to me. But I wasn't aware that it only come with ambi mag release. Can one swap it back to right handed only mag release?

The pic rail in my hands is awsome and I wish the other 17 of my Glocks had it. NO, you can't change the ambi to right hand only, UNLESS you are willing to grind the left side button off. I have thought about it in the past but it dosn't get in my way no matter how I use it. Holsters are readily avaliable from companies like Comp-Tac. I have several from them and they really are excellent units. The mag release issues were for people that dont know much about guns. Every issue I have ever heard tell about COULD have been easily fixed by the owner. In my opinion, they are one of the best Glocks.

Nice. If it was OD green with fish gills, and the Picatinny rail, it might be worth a ton in the future.

The ambi mag release had an issue where the button wouldn't move in with a loaded magazine unless you pushed up on the bottom of the magazine to relieve the pressure from the magazine release. The other issue was that the release could become stuck in position, I'm not too familiar with it but I believe it may need lubrication. Sometimes it would even pop out of the frame.

If it works for you, don't worry about it. If it ever gives you problems, call Glock and talk to the Warranty Service Department about it, they'll offer to replace the frame with one that has a standard magazine release and standard, non-picatinny rail.

No fish gills, but it's OD. Apparently the models given to the military for the Joint Combat Pistol trials were OD green, though they never released an OD G21SF with picatinny rail to the public.

Yep, back when Glock (and many of the other major pistol makers who wanted a Mil/Gov contract) was anticipating the pending military .45 pistol trials, the M1913 (or Picatinny Arsenal) rail system was considered to be the standard that would be required in the specs package.

Didn't work out to happen.

Maybe later.

Never a problem with my mag release. Can't imagine ever having a problem with it. This is my favorite handgun. I put Hiene straight 8 slat pro race cut sights, tungsten rod, factory weight spring, polished feed ramp/trigger, slight trigger work with factory weight. Finest shooting .45 ever made! Never once a jam. Never once a problem.

It's a good pistol, for sure. I sold mine, but hope to pick up a Gen4 soon.

It looks Black with the flash used for the pic.

How does it shoot?

I love these guns, wish they offered this option on the 20sf I just bought. I wouldn't pay extra for one, but definitely think they are cool.
