Trade my 45 tactical for a 70'sColt Commander or not?

I really don't know much about 1911's but wouldn't mind trying one out. My good friend just wants an XD so he offered to trade me his 1970's time area Colt Commander.... any thoughts? I am not that knowledgeable regarding 1911's...

Thanks

Value wise it's a fair trade assuming his Colt is in good condition (it may be worth more than your XD....). I'd shoot it and see which you like better.

I'm going to say trade it. I personally think the XD is over rated. It's all subjective but I'm not much fond of them.

I would make sure it's a fair trade though. I wouldn't trade it for a rust bucket colt.

Yep if the 1911 is in good shape trade it I would say. XDs are nice guns, but they aren't 1911s

IMO XD's are dirt.

If the Commander hasn't been fudged with, do the trade asap. Worst case: you don't love the Commander and you trade it for something else a lot better than an XD such as a Glock, HK, M&P, etc.

one key as mentioned above- make sure the gun hasn't been bubbafied- as in no internal work having been done by anyone except a recognized gunsmith. If there has been no messing with the internals then you should jump at that deal.

I agree. Act now.

Are you a Colt 1911 owner yet?

This! The XD can easily be replaced if you regret dumping it at a later date.

Goodbye Croatia, hello American made Colt.

I never cared for the high bore axis on the XD's.
