Thinking about trading my Sig 226

I rarely shoot it anymore, as other guns have my attention. It's just a basic 226 in great condition, with no rail, 2 10 rd mags, a 15 rd, and a 20 rd mag.

My question is, what's a fair trade value to place upon the gun? I see a good bit of non rail 226's out there, and the prices seem to vary pretty big.

B/c of the W/Germany stuff, the condition being pretty good with night sights I've seen plenty going for as little as
$450-600.... not much more. Great guns, just plenty out there.

Where was the gun made? Also depends if you are trading it in at a gun store on another gun or to an individual, which I'm sure you know you will come out better on. I wouldn't disagree with the above assessment. 450 would be a little lower than absolute bottom dollar for me. If it were West German(or even U.S. Made) in great shape, and you put some effort working around a trade, you might get a good swap out of it. Post it in the Glocktalk classifieds. I have had great luck there!

$550 should go in few days in my neck of wood. If you have the time, I would list the gun with two 10rd mag for $550. And sale the 15rd, 20rd mag separate. Should bring you in another $30 or so.

I traded one in early January towards a Gen4 Glock and got $475.

Yeah, the dealer got the best end of that trade.

I never understood trading in a higher end gun towards a lower end model.

Well, the dealer usually comes out ahead, just not that far ahead!

Of course. That's why they're in business. We just need to ensure we don't get hosed like that.

That's why I don't trade in vehicles or guns, I can always sell either for way more money than I could trade them in for. The worst I've ever done on a gun was to break even for what I paid for it. I sold my G19 for the same price I paid for it 10 years earlier. I actually made $50 on the G23 I sold a month or so ago that I carried for 2 years.

I think most people are too quick to trade a gun in because of wanting something on impulse and take way too low a price on it.

Yeah, I haven't sold a gun in a long while.

I used to put them on consignment rather than trade them though.

My guess is that you would do better selling it yourself than trading it at a dealer. My other guess is that you probably will end up missing it more than you would think.

Quick, pull your head out of your ***. The 226 is at the top of the heap as far as accuracy and reliability for DA autos. Put it back in the safe for awhile until you come to your senses.

I traded a 229 E2 (yeah, that American made "crap") awhile back and got $600 in trade. Had 3 mags and night sights. I only paid $680 for it new so I was satisfied with that.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing to my 229R E2.

Yeah, the new Sigs don't do a thing for me.

I'll never buy one.

Bac: No interest in these?

I just picked one up, and they are very sweet indeed. Nothing like the Exeter stuff of late.

They do look nice.

I just don't do the rail thing though. My polymer pistols have rails and that's where it ends for me.

The rails notwithstanding, they are indeed built the old way - and since it was a limited run, I just had to have one - love it so far.

Best 'new' thing Sig has done in years, hands down.

Yep - What's 'old' is truly 'new' again.

I'll freely admit though, I just have a soft spot for German Sigs in general. Doesn't matter if they were made in the 1980s, or just last year - I'll take one!

Or two.
