S&w 3913

I have been wanting to get a 9mm semi-auto. When I first started in law enforcement over 19 years ago my dept. issued S&W model 15's. But we could carry whatever we wanted for back up and off duty. I remember seeing a couple of the other officers carrying the 3913 and thought what a nice gun it was. Anyone here ever own or carry one for ccw? I know there are other smaller and less bulky 9mm's out there but I just wanted some input as to their reliability and such.

Excellent gun,Very Accurate,I always change the grips on mine to Hogue as i hated the slick zytel plastic grips.

Good gun. Solid. I got both a 3913 and 6906 (just like the 3913, but double stacked). I prefer the 6906 just because the extra rounds, but both are good choices.

I walked along next to a 3914 for about 8 years as my primary shop/range/CCW/EDC pistol. It was flawlessly reliable even when I fed it old cast-off ammo that folks brought into the shop. Additionally, it consumed a few thousand rounds of Cor-Bon's 115 grain +P round without complaint. (Yes, I said thousand. It was the early 90's, I was single and working in a gunshop. It was a good time.)

I used the stock grips, Hogue rubber grips and even a set of Hogue wood grips. Right now it has a rubber grip sleeve (Uncle Mike's, I believe) over the stock plastic grip.

The 3913/3914 is compact, relatively lightweight and packs sufficient authority (8 + 1 capacity) to still be a solid choice for CCW.

The 3rd gen Smiths are outstanding pistols.

I have a 3906 and love it.

At least around here there some seem to think the 3913 is highly collectible as I have seen them marked as high as $700 (which I thought was rather optmistic.) If I wanted one I would probably try sooner rather than postpone the purchase for a few years as I think the third generation Smiths are going to increase in cost. Of course I have been very wrong especially about financial issues in the past.

All of my 3rd generation S&W's have been great guns so far. I have a 908 which is a blued economy version of the gun you're looking at. If you like it, go for it.

Had a 3913, a 909, and various other Smiths of that ilk. All of them had crappy triggers. There are many better guns for range or defensive use, at better prices.

Please break it down for us. How about a short list of 5, not that many, that are both better AND at better prices (please define "better prices" in terms of actual price point).

Are you talking new or used? What in your estimation makes them better?

Just curious, not a jab.

I carry my 3913 daily (in a DeSantis Sof-Tuck) and shoot it at the range at least twice a week.

It is one of those pistols that just points naturally for me. My trigger is great, not rough at all.

I paid $375 for mine with 3 magazines, box and misc extra parts. It was very gently used.

When my department transitioned to auto's around 1990 I got a 3913 for my back up gun and still carry it. Sold the 5906 and 4506 I had for duty weapons but kept the 3913. Great gun.

At one point I owned 85 S&W revolvers; their high-end single action autos were - are - excellent; and the current M&P polymer guns appear to be quite good. But their DA/SA guns didn't work for me (or for a lot of others, since that line seems to be just about kaput).

A few centerfire autos with better triggers: CZ SA or DA/SA pistols and some clones; Browning HP; Star SA's from the '90's; 1911's; Glocks; Walther PPQ; H&K P7.

i had one and loved it the worst thing i ever did was trade it know everyone wants more for a used one than i paid for my new one i carried it in a galco sob it was just great filling carrying shooting great all around everything
