I just got a price quote from Robar for my P7,$375 includes 2 mags, Metaloy wasn't that much less at around $340. If I put the wood Nills grips on it my aftermarket cost will be about what I paid for the gun. Pricey!

Ugly no doubt but at least it doesn't have the Taurus "Gold" trigger and controls...

357 Sig. Had one. I got rid of it. The round has plenty of punch, was accurate but..... It is noisey as hell indoors. The sound alone is enough to stun somebody in a hall way with out ear protection.
The Molon Labe is cool it was our divisions slogan.
Let's face face it the purple/plum color is whacked. But I doubt that a bad guy is going to laugh or make fun of somebody's plum colored 45 that is pointing at them.
Sig is known for doing some bizarre colored guns. Look at the Sig 380's

I've been using 357 Sig since 98. I've wanted a 1911 in 357 Sig since, well, 98.
It is noisy, but firing any caliber, especially a centerfire, indoors is going to be deafening.
I can tell you for certain that an M-60 with a 6-12 rd burst indoors will get your attention.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I thought it would be better than starting a new one. I was able to handle a Sig 1911 at the shop the other day and have to say I was very impressed. I also love the 357 Sig cartridge. My questions are: Would the 357 Sig in a 1911 be reliable? I've heard that shorter cases don't feed well. Would the gun be as durable, since it was not designed for such a "hot" round? Last, what special considerations should I be aware of, such as proprietary magazines or other special parts? Thanks 1911 gurus!

In my opinion a .357 1911 should be more reliable and more durable than one in .45 ACP.

Yes, if set up properly.

Not necessarily true. See above.

The 1911 can handle 10mm, 38super, 9x21, 9x23 just fine again, if it's built well. .357Sig should be no problem.
Personally, I think the cool thing about this gun would be to get an extra .40 barrel fitted and have both.
As far as mags go, there are .40 mags out there that should work just fine. In fact I've used Wilson 47ds in my Wilson CQB in .40 and it's been flawless. A little trick some of the local gamers told me.

Not really. $17 for range ammo and $28.50 for HD full power loads isn't expensive in my book.

Bottlenecked cartridges supposedly feed better because the bullet and the neck are smaller than the main casing.
I have a .357 SIG P229 stashed somewhere. Haven't shot the darn thing in probably close to a decade now.

As a general rule heavier bullets cause more wear and tear then lighter bullets.

See, and I have heard, maybe from even this website, that 40sw, 357sig, 10mm (modern hot rounds with sharper recoil) were more damaging to frames, barrels, etc. While 9mm(very little recoil), and 45(soft push recoil) would last much longer.
ETA: how would the gun be set up differently?

This is the the model I was referring to in my original post. If it had all black controls or was completely hardchromed, it would be a good looking gun in an awesome caliber.

Hate to say it, but I still dig it, minus the trigger and grips.

OK I just saw a Nightmare in person A 45ACP 5 inch version and it is very nice...
The bobtail is unique , more rounded than angular very well done it sits nice in the hand and points well.
No ambi safety no rail...

I have built one 1911 in .357 sig for a customer who absolutly loves the caliber. Have not done anymore as I am not a fan of adding another caliber to stock. I did however build one in 7.62x25. That one has been fun and 1750fps out of a 5" barrel is quite fast. Since then I have done 2 more in the x 25 caliber.
