Won't do a thing for a 45acp, pressure is too low. That's why guys that want to run Comps in IPSC use 38 Super, pressure is high enough to make the Comp work. Either way it'll LOOK cool.

My first thoughts are similar to TNF, but I must admit that whatever I say about compensators is strictly theoretical, since I've never used one.

Danimal.....Well, you've got it now, so you should give us an update about your conclusions, once you've got that compensator installed. If all you're looking for is the "cool" factor and some "fire", then I'd guess you're probably going to get that.

Is there agreement among the competitive shooters that compensators actually work to the level of expectations they are hoping to achieve? It seems to me like there is such a small window of opportunity for them to work at all. If the bullet is behind the compensator it won't work. when the bullet leaves the muzzle, the remaining gasses will follow the path of least resistance.......out the muzzle.

But, as I said......all of this is theory on my part, because I have absolutely no experience with compensators.

What you can do is use it to cock the weapon with one hand. If for some reason you got one of your arms/hands disabled and couldn't rack the slide you can press the muzzle of the comp against something hard to push the slide back.
Of course I won't run a guide rod in my 1911a1's for that very reason, you can push a full size against something just under the barrel and rack the slide back with one hand. Can't quite do it with a Commander size gun, enough to cock the hammer but not enough to chamber a round. Guess that's where the full size gun is just a bit better.

Years ago, I bought one of those to put on my Norinco and while it looked good, it was also the only time that the pistol ever jammed (4 times in 50 rds). Perhaps it was just a coincidence but that piece now sits in my extra parts bin.

PS: Thanks for the reminder; I'll pull it out for my next 'time-to-finance-a-new-gun' drive.

Adding a part like this increases the weight of the slide assembly which lowers slide velociety. If you drop down on recoil spring weight by a couple pounds you can bring things back into balance. Some of the guys shooting IPSC with the 38 Super loaded up to make Major that are running Comps go as low as 8# on their recoil springs because the Comps are so effective that they cut the recoil down to where they barely have enough to work the slide.
I'd say if you have feeding/function problems drop down from the stock 18# recoil spring to a 16# and that'll fix things.

The gun your thinking of was from The Punisher with Thomas Jane. His was a complete King's compensator kit with threaded barrels, unlike the type on eBay that replace the bushing.

I got one of those eBay copies awhile ago for $30 when I bought my first 1911, but never installed it due to being kinda pointless. They charge $75 for them now which I find rather ludicrous and a waste of money, even if it's just for the look.

These do make a difference on a .45. I had one years ago on a mil-spec. I will say the only real difference is the added weight to the end of the gun helps keep the muzzle down during recoil.

In that picture it looks to me like the compensator doesn't seat flat or tight against the muzzle, I can see a small gap, not sure if that's normal
