Anybody here into American vintage watches?
Here are a few of mine that I bought non-working and repaired.

Cool! I would love to be able to repair/refurb some older watches, but I fear I would create an abstract art object instead of a functional time piece.

I bought the wife many vintage Mickey Mouse Watches that play music, over the years.
I would love to have an old operational Accutron Spaceview Alpha in 14K Gold, again.

Bulova Watch Co. is what brought my grandfather to this country. I should get a vintage Bulova.

Was your grandfather a watch maker California Jack?
Which country did he come here from? Bulova has an interesting history. Joseph Bulova, the company's founder, emigrated from Bohemia, in what is now the Czech Republic in 1875. There's a lot of information about Bulova here: http://www.bulova.com/en_us/legacy
Bulova was the first company to ever have a television commercial. Bulova was the first watch ever on the moon.
Do you have any old Bulova's that belonged to your grandfather? If so, you should get one of those and do what ever it requires to get it functional again. Let us know if you do get one and post a picture of it. I've got around 100 Bulova's in my collection now. This is my latest acquisition.
It's a 1948 Bulova Spencer. I just got it three days ago and haven't done anything to it yet. It's a fun hobby.

Grandfather was Swiss. He was not a watchmaker he was a tool and die maker with watch industry experience. His brother was a watchmaker but stayed in Switzerland.
None of his watches are in my possession, nor do I have any he gave me when I was younger. I need to find out if Dad has any.

Keep us informed. If you get one and need help with it, I'll be more than happy to assist in any way I can. It's fun just finding that one elusive part needed to finish the project on some. I've found parts I needed in Australia and the Netherlands and all over the US. And then you get to sit back and marvel at something that was made in the 1920's or 30's or 40's take that first tick of new life. And treated with care and maintained they will be around for the next generation to marvel at and enjoy.

That will be fine Jack. I would like to learn more about your grandfather also. Like when he came to this country and his connection with Bulova.
