Starline is exc brass. All the rest are fine to, but FC. I have yet to find any Federal brass that is worth a crap for high pressure loads in rifle or handgun. You want to get rid of it, PM me.

Fred,
On the topic of Federal brass and 40 S&W: I have been saving the brass from my wife's duty weapon. It is all from Wally World Federal Champion.
Some day, maybe, we will buy a matching P229 and start shooting reloads. I'm not willing to shoot reloads in someone else's gun and she has no desire to write a 'Dear Chief' letter.
So, is the brass worth saving? It's all pretty recent stuff (last 2 years or so). My intent would be to load something near factory velocities with a 180 gr HP.
It's not a big deal to me, one way or the other. I have no concern about having to buy a couple of thousand Starline cases. I bought some for both .45 and 9mm and they have worked just fine.
Richard

I agree with Fred, Starline is excellent. I bought 1000rds. of TopBrass, and would recommend it highly. Any nickel plated will not last as long as it is more brittle, but it sure does shine up purdy!

I have reloaded Starline, Double Tap, and Winchester 10mm up to 8 times so far without case damage. That goes for the nickel ones as well.

Load 'em till they split or you lose them! There is nothing magical about the 10mm, just like any other caliber load em up until they split or you lose them.

Starline brass is my preference. I am pretty sure that Double Tap brass is made by Starline. From your list, I have used F C brass, R P nickel, and Winchester brass. All fine. However, I relegated the F C brass to modest pressure reloads, and they have worked fine.
One word of caution about the nickel brass: I noticed after 4-5 loads that neck tension becomes severely compromised. Light weight and mid weight bullets setback easily. They seem ok in the heavier weights with longer bearing surface.

Starline makes the Double Tap brass. Think in terms of equality there.
Federal brass sucks. I hate it. Turn it in for scrap.
Others are fine.

I do not know about any but the Starline. I like and use it in reloading for my G20. Have not had any problems so far and reload it many times.
Max loads do wear it out faster.

You can use it Richard, but I would watch the round count & not load it much above midrange levels. Yes it is that crappy.

Well, yes & no. With high pressure rounds in poor brass, the vert case spilt isn't the issue, it's the soft case head, such as Federal's have. Shoot those until they fail, they can fail in the critical head area, that would not be good.

I reload any of my brass. I have some old Norma in the mix, and I also have some Midway brass from some time back (and have no idea who made it). However, everything above a moderate load I use new Starline.

Icelandicstud, all that 10mm brass you have is junk. Not even worth scraping. You should send it to me so I can dispose of it properly.
