I'm a high school teacher in California, an elected Site Representative of the teacher's union, and have a Master's degree in Education. In spite of all those liberal qualifications, I'm a conservative, life-long Republican, and now a Life Member of NRA.
While earning my Business degree at Sacramento State University, I was blessed to get to work for a master gunsmith. I learned enough there to know how little I know, but also to start a relationship with the Colt 1911 and a torrid affair with S&W revolvers. This was the early '80s, and Glock was as foreign to me as French girls - but not nearly as attractive.

Gotta run - I'll continue this later....

First handgun was a Ruger 6" .22 semi, RST(?) IIRC. Second was a 6" Highway Patrolman, the a 2.5" 66, a 6" 629, and a 4" stainless .22LR kit gun. For graduation, the old gunsmith presented me with a 1911 he'd built from assorted parts. Lost them all and more in a burglary a few years later.

After a stint as a Deputy Sheriff, I spent lots of years shooting ground squirrels with .22-250s, but not much handgunning. Until May of last year, I'd gone 7-8 years without firing a handgun. A new indoor range opened nearby, and I wandered in to see about a membership. They were starting their own indoor league that night, so I joined and ran home to get my 1911. Went back, fired 5 practice rounds at the 25 yard target, then shot the five that counted. Out of 29 shooters, I scored 5th.

I've also been flying R/C model airplanes off and on for 40 years. This last stint was 23 years, but I found my interest waning and my time eaten up elsewhere - the wife and I bought Harleys in 2004, and we love to ride, which killed my model flying time. Shortly after I started shooting again, I stuck my right hand into the path of a propellor that was turning about 8K rpm, breaking two fingers and shortening one of them. That was the final straw - I decided I'd had enough. I proceeded to sell models and buy guns and related products.

Glocks still held no attraction to me. The range has a small rental fleet, and I was considering a 9mm for a less expensive practice pistol - the .22 conversion on a 1911 just didn't do it for me. I tried several guns, and realized that polymer was probably in my immediate future. Always one to explore options, I tried a Glock 19. I found that if I wanted to hit the broadside of a barn with it, I had to fire from inside the barn... I wasn't really impressed with the M&P or the XD, either. Very few 9mm 1911s on the California list, so I was seriously considering a SSE on a STI, but just decided to wait a bit.

A couple of months ago, my wife decided she should develop some familiarity with handguns. Good idea, as we usually travel with one, and if she needed it I would already be down. Turns out she's deadly accurate with a .38 Airweight. That got her interested, and she also can get a CCW. We shopped around, and decided on a Ruger LC9 for her - she thought it fit just right. Purchased one, as the range didn't have a rental. Everything was great, until she fired it. By the third shot, she'd had enough. The edges sat right at the boniest oarts of her hand, and it was painful. I shot it, and was amazed at the accuracy of the little bugger - so I quickly formed Plan B. Went out to the rental desk and got a XD compact, a M&P 9, a M&P 9c, and a Glock 17 Gen 3. She shot all four, and was the most accurate with the Glock. The M&P 9c was nearly as accurate, but much more comfortable for her. When one becomes available, she'll get one. The LC9 will stay as our pocket pistol, but the majority of her recreational shooting will be on the M&P.

Just for giggles, I then rented a Glock 30 - and everything just clicked. I shot it nearly as accurately as a full-size 1911. I debated between it and the 36, and went with the 30. As the LC9 is in my name, I have to wait to pick it up until next month.

In keeping with my OCD nature, I now found myself transitioning from the 1911 to the Glock in .45acp - and still without a 9mm range gun. So I ordered a G34 Gen3...

I can start my 10-day waiting period on my next handgun on April 25. The range will be starting GSSF shoots in June, so I think the 34 will be next, followed by the 30 a month later. I found out today that my middle finger is either still broken or rebroken, so the 34 will probably be the better choice for the immediate future. I'm also considering adding a 26, 27, or whatever the .40 compact model is....

Well, that's a bit about me and my relationship to Glocks. The next year will define that relationship further, but I fully expect the 30 to be my regular carry piece.

Welcome to GT......... Now get busy and tell your fellow Californians that the vast majority of gun owners are the "good guys."
