To all Navy vets ,

I'm Having my Dad's tags re-created. I have all the info needed but am wondering about layout. Dad went through boot in 1959 and was active from 60 to 62. Notch or no notch? Space or dash in service number? Does anyone still have their tags from this time period? Would really appreciate any info. Want to make as accurate as possible. Thanks

1961-1970 era dog tags with the notch. Service number is

xxx xx xx. With a space between the three sets of numbers. They later used ss numbers

Interesting....no pos or neg factors for blood type. My bet is my dad's would have read catholic or short for it since he grew up catholic and didn't go baptist till he married my mother in '68. On a side note I do have my Grandpa's WWII Navy tags. I love those oval shaped beautys.

Pretty much same as what you said. Was in navy at about the same time as my dad.

Hey guys anybody have Navy reserve tags from said time period? Dad's papers said Navy reserve after Navy as branch. I'm probably a bit too concerned with getting this to spec but I really want to do this right. Thanks again.
