Gay couple accused of faking hate crime

This is what my town is famous for this week. IMO this is a case of a false police report with political implications. No matter what you think about gay couples, people shouldn't be wasting law enforcement's time with politically motivated false reports. I would love to know what they thought they would gain by this.

Being a conservative and being a good leader is not enough for some people. They want to measure your principles by how harshly you criticize the people that disagree with you. There’s a technical term for that political strategy: stupid. ~State Sen. Shawn Mitchell, R-CO

Americans have put clowns in for government officials and wonder why this place runs like a circus. ~engineer151515

I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt: I think they were just trying to get the HOA off their backs by falsely accusing them of a crime. I don't think they actually thought that Federal Law Enforcement would investigate such a "small" crime.

That being said, if you mislead Federal Law Enforcement, I believe you need to be charged with a Federal Crime (i.e. Stupid games --> Stupid prizes).
