Trijicon SRS w/ QD Mount or Aimpoint T1 Micro on LaRue Mount for 7.5" SBR?
Should I get a Trijicon SRS w/ QD Mount or Aimpoint T1 Micro on LaRue Mount for my 7.5" SBR?
I am really intrigued by the fact that the SRS runs off of Solar Power during daylight, and auto-regulates its brightness according to the light in the direction of the target. It has 3 years run time on setting 7 of 10 on the AA battery.
Cost is about $830.
or......I could just go with the tried and true Aimpoint T1 Micro on a LaRue Mount, which I had on the 7.5" at one point, however, I find I'm missing having an optic on it.
Cost is $640
Now, I'm a Trijicon whore. I eat, sleep, and breathe Trijicon stuff.....however, I'm not sure how I feel about dropping $800+ to be a beta-tester.
As far-fetched as it sounds, I do like how small the T1 is, and am leaning that way, in regard to keeping my PDW as concealable as possible.
What are your thoughts?
Rifle in question is in the AR picture thread. Its the small one.

T-1 (or H-1) due to the compact size, battery life and ruggedness.

Trijicon SRS QD Weight: 13.8 oz. with Mount and AA Lithium Battery (From Trijicon Website)
Aimpoint T-1 Weight: 3.7 oz. (105g) including mount (From Larue Website)
From you other rifles, I don't think it matters to you, but I thought it was interesting.

I'd go with the SRS.
Yeah, its new. But when has Trij really released something that bombed?
And if you don't like it, its not like there won't be a bajillion fan boys on AR-15.com that want to buy it for 50 less than retail. Mention it went to A-stan and they'll be drooling on it like a couple of St Bernards over dinner.

But the shiny new SRS is calling to me.......
Truth be told, in all seriousness, I'm leaning toward the T1 anyway. I just saw a pic of the SRS on a rifle, and the ****er is HUGE. Definitely wouldn't look right on my compact little PDW.
*sigh* Looks like LaRue will be getting more of my business.

Proven optic trumps new optic every time.

I think this time, I'm gonna try out LaRue's absolute co-witness mount. I figure, worst-case, they'll let me swap it for a 1/3rd co-witness mount if I don't like the absolute.

How else does a new optic get street cred than to be tried though?

I don't like the auto-regulation thing, going from dark to light......it's rarely worked previously.
That said, Trijicon rarely does screw up. It may be worth a shot just not on a SBR.

The SRS has + and - brightness adjustments. We just received them. Plan to test this one one tomorrow.

I handled the thumbscrew mount SRS at a shop today.
HOLY CRAP THIS IS A NICE OPTIC!
Tube effect= Gone.
Size? Its as big as the new EOTech EXPS's. It looks huge in pics, but really isn't.
Dot is crisp, and bright, and I really like the fact it doesn't use the battery unless there is no sunlight for the solar cells to use. It feels as robust and solid as my ACOGs.
Now I just need to find a place with the QD mount version in-stock, and not trying to rape me for it.

Tri-Power. That one stunk. The concept is great, but the real thing wasn't.
