Decision Time. Howa 308 or Vanguard S2 270

I've decided that since I want to shoot primarily light bullets with low recoil, the 270 is the best fit for me. The problem is, the 308 serves this role quite well with slightly less attractive SD and BC in light weight bullets. Nonetheless it seems that the 270 is more lethal and performs better with 130-160 grain bullets. I also like 30-06 simply for the higher bullet weight versatility, and it's something I'd go with in Howa as well.

So I've got a decision to make. It's between a Howa 1500 308 for $400 or a Vanguard Sporter for $588. The Howa only comes in 22" so I would not want this rifle with the higher velocity 270, so I'd go with a 24" Vanguard to utilize the round. Basically the same rifle, while the Weatherby is walnut with a nicer finish. I like the Howa desert sand Hogue stock too, but don't care for the Weatherby grey synthetic. The price diff is almost $200 but it gives me the caliber better suited for my needs in a prettier package. It I were to go with a 308, I may end up shooting 165 grains to make use of better BC and SD. I like the flat shooting, low recoil aspects of the 270 as well.

What Should I do?
