I'd consider selling the upper and lower seperately and then buy a complete spanking new Colt 6920 from dsgarms for $950ish.( if they still have $30 coupon off $500 or more purchase). You could get $750 for the lower from a ban state buyer and about $400 for the upper. I wouldn't screw around with a classic like that by putting a carbine stock assembly on it.

The RSS actually did pretty decent in the GearScout Buttstock Bashfest. Vltor's response was hilarious.

I don't know how well a rifle upper works on a carbine lower, but I know an M4 upper works well on a
A2 lower.
I'm personally waiting for the MOE rifle stock because I personally find the Magpul butts the most comfortable.
I've forgotten the point of the thread.

Carbine stock and tube on a rifle upper won't make a lick of difference, so long as you are using the right buffer - usually a C, sometimes an H.

Correct.......the Canadian Army issue C7A1 is basically a full-auto M16A4 with a collapsible stock. They 'all' come that way and are set up correctly to do so.

I have a CTR on my 'light' carbine, and UBR's on my heavier AR's. The CTR is a great stock (rattle is bad, mmmkay?) and the UBR is a great stock. The UBR is heavy, and balances out the heavier guns (like your 20" Colt, OP...)
Nothing wrong with putting a CTR on a rifle, but I would go with the UBR (which includes the proper buffer tube.)
Trust me, putting a buffer tube on a rifle is not rocket surgery. There are a couple of things you need to pay attention to (like the flying wallenda buffer retainer spring) but it's super easy. A $25 armorer's wrench is nice to have as well.
