That rifle is completely bad ***. If you haven't shot it yet, or any other .308, you'll be surprised at the power compared to a .223.

Now all you need is one of these, and a good red dot.

Nice pickup, even if that cluster rail is heavy as sin.
Colt, I know how you are on tweaking weapons, so check out the VLTOR stock system for it. Having shot both a standard SOCOM II and a SOCOM with the VLTOR stock replacement, the difference in controllability and felt recoil is pretty significant.

I was just looking at them yesterday. I like it alot. The one thing I noticed was the cheek weld on the factory stock, or lack there of with a optic on the rail of the SOCOM. Does the Vltor correct this. $499.99 is a pretty good upgrade.

It looks like Vltor uses a high mounted mod-stock. It should give a much nicer cheek weld than the factory stock.

Nice rig. As others have mentioned, the cluster rail makes it REAL front heavy / unwieldy (to me, at least). Different strokes .
I wound up with the SOCOM 16, and bought a Freds surplus walnut stock. After refinishing, its a thing of beauty, and pretty unusual, as SA only does black synthetic stocks for the SOCOMs.

Colt, I like it. I have a full size loaded model.
That looks way, way, way heavy. Mine is, and i work out quite a bit, still not the most manageable rifle.
I would shed the cluster rail personally, in favor of a rail section bolted into the stock somehow.

Yup, same size.
Your M1A stock should fit no problem.

Only thing I had to do was mod the GI brown upper hand guard to allow for the forward rail (5 mins with a dremel), and fill in the selector switch cutout (or buy a fake selector from Fulton Armory).
