It would only need to be pinned and welded if it is being used to bring a barrel shorter than 16" to the legal minimum, or if you live in a state that requires muzzle devices to be pinned and welded in place.

I have one. I had it installed for a short while. I paid $10 for it new, and it was installed for free. Loud and concussive. No pinning necessary. I removed it and replaced it with an A2.
