Ok Saiga 308 conversion.....finally done
Well finished my Saiga 308 conversion...
First thanks out to member "Decguns" for answering some questions along the way!
I must admit... There is tremendous satisfaction when completing a project like this however, I will say.... This kind of thing can take your patience out to the limit...
And thank God I have a loving and supportive wife who was willing to offer an extra hand many times through the process as I haven't a clue as how someone can do this on their own...
Here be the pics... Starting to end.....

Looks great! The paint job looks excellent. With the denial plate welded on, and the overly complex Saiga fire control group, the 308 Saiga can be a challenge to convert. Without an extra set of hands, getting the fire control group reinserted, with the spring loaded bolt hold open device, is a challenge. He did well.
This is my first converted 308 Saiga with the pile of parts removed. With no video's or photo's to reference at the time, it was lots of fun.

Thanks again for your advice on this! And you are correct... That reinsertion of the fcg combined with the bolt hold open are from the mind of Satan. Luckily I saw a trick using dental floss that made it easier but it took 4 hands to make it happen!

Congrats. Had a Saiga .308 and stupidly sold it. Worst sale of my 50+ yrs of shooting.
One of the really nice things about the conversion is that it corrects the funky trigger orientation of the stock Saiga. Don

I really wish I had picked up a couple different calibers a few years back when they were dirt cheap. I couldn't have done the conversions then, but I sure could now.

NO DOUBT!!!!
These things were like $299 all day long a few years ago! I wish I had bought one in every caliber.
Oh well....at least I have a Saiga-12.

As long as we are showing off. Here is mine. I actually bought a Saiga 12 back in 2000 and a 7.62x39 shortly after that. My 308 was purchased in 2003. I converted the 12 in 2005, kept the X39 one stock and only got around to converting the 308 last winter.
I was pretty pleased at how it shoots after the conversion. It is accurate, reliable with the (converted to 10 rounds) factory mags. It is actually quite pleasant to shoot in terms of recoil. The sights still suck however. It is also pretty compact and easy to carry and use compared to my M1a. Still debating whether to put a hinge on that Ace stock so it folds. That would make it a very powerful but compact package.

The ACE Ltd side folder is probably the sturdiest folder I've ever used. It does shrink the AK envelope quite a bit. I like that you can still have a scope attached to the side rail with it folded to the left.
Of course, the ACE adapter for the milled receiver is a bit longer than for the Saiga's stamped receiver:

That will likely be the next rifle project of mine. Saiga 12 is almost done...
