I am considering downsizing from my Combat Commander to a Kimber Ultra Carry II. Do you have any concerns with the smaller, lighter frame and 3" barrel? As always, your expert opinion is a decision-making determination for many of us! Thanks again.

As a general rule, 1911s shorter than 4.25" barrel have been notoriously "finicky." Since butt bulges more than muzzle, you might want to consider the short butt/Commander-length guns pioneered by Colt with the CCO back in the 90s, and available today from numerous makers, such as the Nighthawk T3.
