Beretta 92FS, Shipwreck's fault.
I just picked up this not very used Beretta 92 FS. Because it is the main US Military pistol and because all my friends who own them like the 92 it is not really altogether Shipwreck's fault. But his wheel of Berettas has got my attention on a few threads. Yesterday I just picked it up, inspected it, cleaned and lubed and looked up the date on Beretta website. It is a 1996 US made and appears to have only 400 rounds through it as I was told.

With the case, 4 mags and manual.

With old cardboard outer box.

Here it is with the only other pistol I have with the same type locking block, my Walther P5. I think they will get along.

And with my other 3 full size 9mms. HK USP9, 92FS,
CZ85 and G17.

I have 250 rounds of UMC 115 grain hardball and 50 rounds of Winchester 124 grain Bonded JHP +P RA9BA set aside to shoot it with on Saturday. One of my friends from some years back gave me lots of opportunity to shoot his 92FS like 300 rounds or better so I have a pretty good feeling that I am going to like this huge pistol. Shipwreck thanks for helping inspire me to get this 92FS. Someday I'll stop buying, until then people like you, bac and 2740 can help steer me towards good stuff.

Thanks Shipwreck, I'll check that out. I went to Beretta Forum like you suggested and found some good info on preventative maintenance re: locking block and springs and found the date as well. I believe this is a keeper.

Yes indeed.
Change the locking block every 15k (every 20k is recommended, but I have seen many reports where they crack just a few rounds past 20k - better safe than sorry).
Change the recoil spring every 3-3.5k... The recommendation is every 5k, but at 3700 rounds, my recoil spring was a LOT shorter than a new one. I just went ahead and changed it then.
Change the trigger return spring every 5k. Although, to simplify things, I just change mine when I do the recoil spring change...

Ya know, I get grief sometimes for liking the 92 platform so much.. Especially among unhinged 1911 fanatics
But everytime I take one to the gun range and shoot it, all that just rolls off my back. I am reminded each time why I like the platform so much

I will admit that I was one of the 1911 fans in the 1980s that did not like to see it replaced and griped about the M9. After trying it at the range and having quite a few Beretta owners tell me how reliable it is I had to put away my bias. After that it only took me another 20 years to buy one.

One thing to remember - those 1911 military fanatics seem to forget that their beloved 1911s were all beat to hell and from world war 2. Many did not work and could hardly be fixed anymore.

I recall reading that at that time the last deliveries of new 1911s had been made in 1946 so yeah, 40 years of use, abuse and neglect by junior military members takes a toll. I know how some of our members treated squadron equipment when I was in.
