Stupid Beretta mag question.

One of the mags that came with my new 92FS is a 10 rounder. Took it apart, the innards look identical to my 15 round mags, so I was gonna save 'em for spare parts. Then I got to looking at the mag body and wondered... if I cut out the part that indents into the mag body to make it a single stack, would it work, or would that weaken the body too much and make it warp? Guess I'll find out tomorrow either way.

Just go buy new 15 round mags that are on sale at the Beretta USA site for $19.95 each - that would be a lot of work and it may or may not work. If you have any sharp edges inside, it will catch the spring.

Someone on AR15.com stated that they took the time to try this, but the mag didn't work afterwards

The 10rd mags are garbage. The only time I ever had problems with my 92fs was when using the Clinton mags it came with.

Keep em for the range or toss em.

The factory 10 round mags work just fine in my experience. I've never had a jam with any factory Beretta mag, 10, 13, or 15 rounder. 92FS and 92 Compact

Seems like it would be a lot of work to cut the body. Just buy a new mag, or take it back to the seller.

Or maybe use it as a test mag, like a test to see if it will stop a 9mm bullet

It was a "used" unfired gun that I got an absolutely insane deal on, and it came with one 15rd and one 10rd mag. I was gonna just toss it, but I like tinkering with stuff, so I might give it a shot. Whenever I buy new mags I get the Mec-Gar 18rd flush fit mags for carry and 20rd mags for backup, so it's not a big deal if it works or not.

All these Beretta threads are making me want to get an M9. Perhaps after I acquire my g17 I can get one.

Could you tell me more about the magazine options? You say there is an 18 round flush fitting mag?

I only have experience with Mec Gar's 10rd mag. I run both Mec Gar 15 and 10 round mag with my 96G Vertec conversion. They all work just fine. But again, they are Mec Gar.

There are many vendor that made mag for Beretta. I think it's more of issue with junk quality mag builder than 10rd mag issue. For example, Promag sucks no matter 10rd or 15rd mag.

There are factory flush fitting 10, 15, and 17 rounds mags, as well as 20 round extended and a (very) extended 30.

Mec-Gar makes 15 and 18 rounds flush fitting mags (and probably a 10 also), as well as a much better looking extended 20.

There are lots of other, cheaper brands, but I wouldn't waste my money on 'em.

Supposedly the current GI mags are good to go.

I personally wouldn't take that chance while Mec-Gar mags are still plentiful and cheap.

Yes, Mecgar makes a very reliable and affordable flush fit 18rd mag.

I bought my father in law two of them for xmas awhile back.

I went to the indoor range with him today and couldn't his 92 down. Its a great pistol and I regret selling mine years ago. When he expressed interest in a handgun and came to me for recommendations the 92 was my first choice.

IIRC ATF had to approve mag design to make sure it can't be converted. It took some manufacturers several tries to get their 10-rounders approved. Seriously doubt there’s anything you can do.

The 92 seems to get many a gun owner very riled up on both sides of the fence as well. Interesting pistol all the way around.

Oh, and to absolutely no one's surprise, cutting the mag didn't work. Oh well, gave me something to do for about 15 minutes.
