Colt Delta Elite-Gunblast.com- FYI

Jeff Quinn on his site "Gunblast.com" just did an evaluation/video on the Colt 10mm pistol.
NIce write up and a good evaluation of ballistics on a bunch of different ammo -5" Colt barrel of course. He likes this gun! Me too! Got mine !
He recommends the Crimson Trace Master series laser grip-expensive but good stuff.
This is one nice pistol IMHO.

Love my Delta. Dropped it off today for night sights, ambi-safety and trigger job. The Delta is my concealed weapon while the Glock 20 gets beat up in the wood with the really hot rounds.

nickE10mm: thank you. Don't know how I missed the link the first time. What do you all think about the smokin loads he is recommending? IIRC many report concerns with high power loads. I'm asking because I picked up. Nice used Delta Elite recently

No prob, man.

I think he likes the hot loads ... and I think the new DE's barrel has less than stellar support ... but if he's watching carefully at his brass (and its new brass probably), he'll probably live.

In my Delta, I've used Underwood 200 gr FMJ, Double Tap 200 gr FMJ-FP and Double Tap 165 gr Golden Sabers. The Underwood ammo bulged the case at the back of the chamber where it isn't supported. The 200 gr Double Tap also bulged the case but not as bad as the Underwood. The 165 gr Double Taps didn't bulge the case. I still think the 165s are a little hot for the Delta but I wouldn't be afraid to shoot them if I had no other ammo. My theory is that the cases used by Underwood are weaker than Double Tap.

I wouldn't put some of the ammo I've loaded up and shot through my G20 in a DE. I broke in my G20 on old reloads that broke my DE.

It is a beautiful weapon.

But! It is tough for me to get excited over a gun with poor chamber support, a series eighty safety mechanism, and poor mag capacity. Just me, I guess.

G3 or G4 G20 offers much more for much less money (and with an after market 6" barrel the G20 way over performs the DE, IMHO) ... to each his own, though.

Enjoy all your 10mm guns

My Kimber 10mm "outspecs" the Colt ! (If you like MIM parts) Kimber has a
ramped, fully supported barrel ..nite sites , shoots well, is prettier to some eyes, but not a Colt. Just different.
My Glocks are also 'better" in perhaps many ways but I like the Colt too.
I have a coupleof S&W 10mm revolvers andthey are really nice guns, but not the same as the autos, even if the 6 1/4" Smith will shoot the most accurate of all my 10mm 's...
Different strokes you know.

I love my custom Delta, but I had to throw another $700.00 into it to get it to where I thought it was useable.

All I can say is wow! My two closest B&M's won't even order me a Colt, and the thought of spending a grand, for a production gun, then needing to send it back. Absolutely sickening!!!! When is the Kimber Custom Target being released?

I'm sure there are a lot of guys that will shoot it right out of the box, but the trigger was too heavy, the edges were downright dangerous, I wanted a beaver tail and better controls, etc.

Maybe I've turned into a 1911 snob.

Here's the deal...2 years ago, I bought a new Dan Wesson PM7-45 for a little over a grand that is better stock than my Custom Colt is even after the custom work. Given, the prices on DW have gone up since then, but you get my drift.

Couldn't agree more with the beaver tail, not to mention, I like the lower ejection port, also. Might be mistaken, seems Colt is the only 1911, that doesn't come with those standard.

Some 1911's aren't cheap, I get that. One would think, that the ones that are double the price, of others, would be made at least as well, as the lesser expensive ones, and, they are not. At least from what I've read, seen, experienced.
