Best 9 mm pocket carry?

Know this will stir a debate.
Rohrbaugh R9, pint size pocket carry chambered in 9mm.
While it's got a high price tagthe quality is leaps & bounds
above Kel-Tec & the other poly pint size shooters.

Thoughts?

That is a nice looking pistol! For my money, I like the Ruger LC9. It's small, light weight, Ruger reliable, and for me, the small safety is a good thing. Not wild about the mag disconnect.

The Rohrbaugh R9 is really niec but there is nothing what so ever that can justify the cost to me

I don't really see any truly good 9mm pocket pistol options. I'm sticking with a snubbie until I do

I am a pocket pistol junkie. I have or have seriously tried about all of the good ones. I have been tempted by to get a Rohrbaugh from time to time but I just don't know anyone that has one to try it. I imagine a 12 oz 9mm would have serious recoil. Short of an R9 I have great expierience with all of them and my favorite is the Sig 290. I have had mine for over a year and I really like it. It has bright night sights and will eat any ammo that I feed it. It is the first true pocket 9mm that I trust my life to. Others have been either to big for my pocket or not dependable enough.

I'm more than pleased with my Kahr CM9. Well built and has proven to be very reliable for me.

My fiancée carries a Ruger LC9 which I find to be too big for pocket carry (too much grip).

I felt like the Shield is too big for pocket duty. But that's just me.

I do want the woman to take a look at one as a possible LC9 replacement, though.

I'm sure it largely depends on pocket size, too. No two pockets are necessarily the same.

I'd say "best" is the R9, and a close 2nd (and best for the money) would be the P938. All the others I've played with are just too big for my pockets.

From everything I've ever read, the R9 in is a fine firearm if you have the cash.

Something comparable in size is the Diamondback DB9. A student of mine purchased one and wanted me to evaluate it. I probably fired 200 rounds of WWB and 10 rounds of Remington GS 124. It was 100%. Decent sights (can't judge their durability however). Not quite as accurate as my LCP, but perfectly adequate for the type of gun. As expected, recoil was brisk. I chrono'ed some of the WWB from the DB9 and a G34, although there was some loss of velocity, it seems to be an acceptable compromise for the size of the DB9 - still significantly more momentum and energy than a .380.

I have both. The Shield is a better firearm overall (finish, trigger, ect...) but the CM9 is a better 'pocket' gun.

I know the grief is coming, but, I have a G26 and a Taurus PT709 Slim. Love the 26, but I usually wind up with the Taurus: Glock like tigger, no mag disconnect, very slim, thumb safety and truly slim for my right front pocket. About 5-600 rounds of WWB 115 though Gold Dot 124 +P w/o a hitch. My Glock eats everything! Just thicker! Best.

P.S. the new Kimber Solo looks great (YouTube), until you get to the ammo requirements!

Two or three Glocks depending how you buy your Glocks.

I suspect that size wise especially the Rohrbaugh is benchmark. Seems like nearly everyone that has one likes it alot.

I carry a Kahr P9 Covert in a pocket holster in my summer work attire. I like it alot for pocket carry, and if I was to replace it, it would be with a CM9.

Nice redish grips, faarwrenchb...

These are the ones I've shot extensively: PF9, CM9, LC9, Sig 290, Nano.
Shield and PPS are not true pocket pistols, sorry folks.

My favorite for now is the Nano, a little stubby but fits the pocket and shoots well.

Someday I might check out the R9. A little steep, isn't it, but it may be worth the money, who knows.

I have the CW9 which is same size as shield, I do NOT reccomend for pocket carry. Check out the PM9 or CM9 (same size as eachother) they are about 1/2" shorter in all aspects. Better suited for pocket. I love the shield though

For pocket carry I have not found or shot a serious caliber semi-auto that I'm happy with.

Most of the so called pocket 9's are difficult for me to get a grip on and control from shot to shot without adjusting my grip. They also tend to be a little too thick--like my PM9 which was flawless in operations and accurate enough. But damn that gun jumped around in my hand and it was a tad too thick. I replaced it with a PPS which is not really a pocket gun in my book but it is a superb IWB carry because it so slim. It also has a big enough handle on it that it doesn't bounce around in my hands under recoil.

My every day pocket gun that you will find on my 80% of the time is my S&W .357 M&P 340. Its light, powerful, I can control it with .357 Gold Dots in the short barrel loading and even though its thick through the cylinder it tapers at both ends and carries much better in a Desantis Nemesis than any 9mm semi-auto I've tried in my pocket including the slim Walther.

I'd love to shoot an R9 but I can just tell the recoil is going to be the downfall with me and that thin small handle. I'd also like to shoot the Kimber Solo. But I've read so many bad reviews on that gun that I don't think I'd consider one until they get their reliability up to snuff--which may never happen.

When I'm really dressed down with shorts or jeans and need a slim pocket gun I'll tote the LCP--but that's a .380 and admittedly a compromise in firepower for lightweight--almost invisible carry.
