All US presidents related except for one

All are cousins, descendants of John Lackland, King John of England except for Van Buren.

http://www.digtriad.com/news/local/s...6059&catid=175

Is Mitt related?

Nonsense.

The chances of all the presidents being related is astronomical.
...and probably impossible to determine.

Can you imagine the data base that would be necessary to determine
that information?

Does such a data base even exist, and how did that little girl get access to it?

Somebody needs to break the news to that little girl that she's wrong.

I can't believe some of the crap that people fall for.

..

Hopefully Mitt can channel Calvin Coolidge then.

We're all related if you go back far enough. It had already been proven that 22 presidents were related and that was apparently only going back through male parents. This girl added female parents to the search. Anyone that says the odds are "astronomical" doesn't understand how trees work. It's not like flipping a coin.

Of course such databases exist. Ever hear of the MORMONS? They are all about genealogy. My parents searched our family trees back centuries back in the days before the Internet. It's quite possible.

I might be wrong (there's a first time for everything), but I just don't believe it.

JFrame, you've always displayed a firm grasp of reality and I don't question that now. Of course I could be on the wrong side of the majority here, but you can't quote indiscriminately. Are we not all "related"?

Here's your sign. That arrogance can only come from one place.

My apologies -- I'm not sure I understand the context of the question...

No, all apologies are mine. I lumped your opinions with those of another poster. True or not, that's not fair. My bad.

No prob -- however, I was starting to attribute all sorts of witty and ironic satire to your question that evidently weren't there. And here, I was pegging you as a regular Oscar Wilde... Political Issues

We all have 2 parents, 4 grandparents, 8 Grandparents, 16 great great grandparents and so forth.

Nor figure that one out for 50 generations and see what it comes to.

50 generations would be 1000 years if you figure 20 years pr generation.

it becomes apparent that we are probably all related to one degree or another, especially since the number of ancestors increases as we go back in time, while world population DEcreases as we go back in time.

I remember reading a long time ago that if you pick two people at random worldwide you will find they are at most 50th cousins of each other. That is a lot of separation but we are all related to a certain degree.

I have a family tree in my house that goes back to the time of Henry VII and that is just my maternal grandfather's line. My paternal grandfather's line is shadowy up to 1767. They have a family reunion every summer that is attended by thousands nd it is not a common surname. They color code participants by 4 main branches to make it simpler.
