I own numerous Kimbers, my Pro TLE II is the best one of the group. You can get it blued (Well, Kimpro) or in stainless and with a rail, if you so prefer (Mine has the rail)

For the money, I'd go with the Kimber Pro TLE. All of the features most are looking for and they are great guns as well.

{Personally, I'd go for one of these - forged steel slide and frame. All I want from a 1911 is a base for my gun - I don't expect, or even want, some commercial product with a cool name and somebody else's idea of the right modifications.

1911 Forums

For $900, I can refinish it, put on the sights, safety, grip safety, grips, trigger, etc. that I want and have money left over.

The Ranger can be had right at $1k, new, but you might luck into a used one for less than your $900 limit. I've had mine for a couple of years and it is top notch.

Love it!! I have around 200-250 rounds through it without the hint of a problem. It is smooth shooting. Also I love the two tone and it came with night sights on it.

Here is the first 100 rounds through it:
