what is you most accurate 180gr load?
Im trying to get something around the 1200fps mark that I can make a lot of quickly and cheaply.
Im working with Lee truncated cone 175gr lead bullets.
The bullets weigh 177grs when sized and lubed, the mold has had the bevel base removed.
Id like to run them plain base if possible, but I can gas check them
Low pressure is a big plus, as is a slow burn rate (I use a comp)
Im thinking either 13ish grains of AA#9, 10.5ish grains of Blue Dot, or 9.2grs of Longshot,
I also have WSF, Unique, and AutoComp, but I think those are faster powders and if pushed to 1200fps may cause leading and/or accuracy issues.

1200 FPS with the 180 gr. (or 175 LTC) is easy. Any of your first suggestions are simple, clean, and not punishing. You can also get there with some of the faster powders, but as you said, occurrences of leading increases. 1200 isn't asking much. I like BD for this, and 10.x gr. is a good place to start. You can have 1300, if you want, for a little more without much effort. Plain base or bevel, doesn't seem to make much difference. Very accurate with BD, LS or AA9.

9.2gr LS is really, really nice. Blue Dot is usually very accurate, too. A max book charge of AA7 (10.9gr) was always very accurate for me, as well.

I shoot the same bullet in 40's at about 950fps Nice flat meplate. Excellent shooting. Mine have been weighing in at about 182. Might be a bit soft for the 10 but I haven't tried them.

Good luck

Personally I would stay away from longshot under the lead. I had issues with leading when using it. Blue dot, 800 x have been working well for me. Same bullet. I have some loaded now with 11 gr 800x. Very fast and powerful. Shoots a sub 2in group at 30 yards free hand.

Agreed ... 8.6gr PP under a 180gr XTP was an old standby for a long time. Strong, accurate and safe, about 1267-1270fps in a 6" bbl

Strangely enough, during my last experiment to get RID of leading in some cast bullets I'm using, I couldn't stop the leading using Blue Dot at all, no matter what I did. Longshot and HP38 both worked great once I got the charges right.
800x IS a good powder for lead, I would agree... but it doesn't meter for crap. I haven't touched my can of 800x in a long time.
I guess the point is, try your options and find out what works best for you (the OP)
Good luck!

Something to consider... I find this thread interesting as what I have found most recently with 9 mm cast, (lee 105 swc) was that I would get tumblers and leading with some of the faster powders w231 and even unique but when I slowed the burn down with WSF the bullets shot straighter without tumbling and now have little or no leading.
I figured that I was slowing the initial acceleration down and helping prevent a skid.
I have only had a ten a few months and have not started any real load development with cast. It is the only caliber that I am shooting copper clad in at the moment.

My bad and I realize this is an old thread but wanted to clarify the LS results. This was fired out of a 8.85" SBR. The PP load was out of an EAA Witness Ltd with 4.75" barrel. Sorry I did not catch this error sooner.
