Speed of sound can be generalized by less than 1000 fps. It is determined by atmospheric pressure/density/altitude.

Most go for around 900 fps. Velocity is the only determination for round.

Most 147gr 9mm are sub sonic. My g19 is very quiet with the 147 out of a SWR octane 9. A g17 has a longer barrel but not long enough to really effect the speed.

I bought a Silencerco Osprey 9 suppressor for my G17.

I love the mount - it locks up very tight. In restrospect, however, I should have gotten the Osprey 45, since I could have used it on my G21SF as well.

I haven't chrono'd any factory ammo out of it, and I don't reload 9mm, so I can't help you there.

any of the top brands will work.
make sure your suppressor has a Nielsen device or LID unit,
this will allow functioning.
As far as ammo.
147 gr doing about 800-850 fps works very well,
just google Dr.Dater recipe.

I went with the flat-sided Osprey 45 on my G21 as is does not interfere with the Crimson Trace laser like a round suppressor.

Since suppressors push quite a bit of fouling back into the weapon, reload with a clean burning power such as VihtaVuori under a 147 grain bullet. That should remain subsonic using 5.1 grains of V350 or 5.2 of 3N37. Additional 9mm load data here.

Does the supresser come apart for cleaning?

From Silencerco's website:

Because the Osprey has such a substantial amount of internal volume, there is no need to regularly clean the baffles. When you do want to clean the baffles, soak the silencer in a hydrocarbon-based solvent such as WD-40 and certain mineral spirits and/or lacquer thinners. Then, remove the Osprey and blow out the internals with pressurized air, shake out all the liquid, and let dry.

The Nielsen device, or booster, should be regularly cleaned. Remove the booster and disassemble all the parts (refer to the “booster disassembly” section). Using an abrasive brush and/or a Scotch-Brite pad and solvent, scrub the components free of the carbon buildup. When finished, apply white lithium grease to the O-ring inside the spring retainer, assemble the booster and install into the back of the Osprey. NOTE: Do not use sandpaper to clean the booster as it may ruin the precision finish and may cause malfunction.

I like the shape of Silencerco's suppressors, but I am going with the AAC Tirant-9. If you are concerned with subsonic rounds I wouldn't recommend getting a larger caliber suppressor, because it wont trap as much of the gasses and noise as a suppressor made for the caliber you are shooting. Either way they are all lots of fun!
