Congrats on your purchase.
Have fun with it and if you can, buy a nice mat and stay off the bench. A 20 round magazine will work nice in the prone position.

I like this, simple and classic, but with modern options. That is an ideal starting point. Shorter barrels and collapsable stocks have their place, such as getting in and out of vehicles and house clearing and other CQC situations, but there are advantages to a solid stock and a 20" barrel.

You're going to shoot someone's eye out (from hundreds of yards away)!

Also, how about the price you picked this beauty up for if you don't mind sharing?

Just curious, doesn't a thirty round mag give you the option of using it as a monopod though? I've heard a few instructors say this, wouldn't that be an advantage over the 20's?

Find better instructors. Using the magazine as a monopod can induce malfunctions by applying unintended force on the weapons food source... the magazine (resulting in ftf). Will this always happen ... no. Your typical gi magazines are also not the sturdiest of devices. They are merely spot welded and are fairly easy to damage if you abuse them also resulting in ftf's.

Not sure what the instructors say. Everybody has their own opinion I would think. Once again just my opinion, I wouldn’t view a magazine as a stable platform. They can have some wiggle to them. Maybe in a pinch at close range, but I would have a hard time believing it at long distances. Otherwise most bipod manufactures would go out of business.
I know from shooting in Matches at the club, that a 30 round magazine sometimes get in the way. Depending on your length of arms and how far the rifle is off the ground. The 30 round magazines may be to long for some shooters to get into a good position while being in the prone position. I have also seen a 30 round magazine get in the way for people shooting in the sitting position. Sometimes it will rest on the knee. There can be all kinds of movement with that one.

Don't mind at all. Bought it from a private seller for $800. Came with a case, 6 mags, 200 rounds of .223, an NCStar red dot sight, and a sling.
Didn't get any pics of my targets, but I will next time! Just picked up a Colt 1911-22 for plinking so I'm probably heading out there this afternoon or tomorrow.

Nice looking old school AR, congrats!
Do yourself a favor and put the NCStar red dot down range and shoot it, junk made for airsoft guns.
If you want a red dot get a Aimpoint Pro.

I hear you on that. My next major purchase for it will most likely be optics.
