A Timex ironman I bought 16-18 years ago. Been beat up on about 4-5 different submarines, 3 years as a corrections officer and 3 years at a power plant.

I found the watch I want & it's $450.00 at a jewelry store & $265.00 on ebay. The eBay store that's selling it says it's guaranteed authentic, brand new with all paper work, box & 5 year warranty from citizens. Anyone here ever bought a watch from an ebay store? I'm kinda leary because of the major cost difference. Should I buy from the store or eBay?

As can be seen, mine was not exactly coddled. You must've tapped it harder than you thought. Or was "tapped it" intended as a euphemism?

I killed one of these in 6 mos.

I have several watches, but my two favorites are the ones that use Tritium Tubes for lume. The ArmourLite ISObrite uses T100 and the Christopher Ward uses T25. Both are dive watches, the ISObrite is 200M with a sapphire crystal, and the CW is 500M with a domed sapphire crystal and a helium release valve. Both are extremely accurate and very comfortable. As an everyday work watch, I wear my trusty Luminox Navy Seal.

The ArmourLite runs on a 10 year lithium battery and the case is made from PC+Carbine Fibre, swiss movement.

The Christopher Ward is PVD coated stainless steel, the movement is 26 jewel swiss automatic.

Nice score! I picked up one last year. I have to admit that once I put the rubber strap on my 5167, that's been my almost daily wearer.

I'd see if they'll come down at the jewelry store. If something happens they'll take care of it. eBay can have some deals, but its become a scam playground, and you may wind up getting a used watch.

Second this. Seikos are nearly indestructible (within reason of course).

Be careful as there are many watch manufactures that will not honor warranties on watches not bought from authorized dealers. Most manufacturers also do not allow internet sales such as eBay. On that note, I am not sure what Citizen's policy is on this, however if you are ever in need of warranty repair, you may very well end up eating that savings paying for a repair that under normal circumstances would have been covered.

For me, that extra $185 is worth it to avoid that possibility buying a grey market watch.

I had an old Seiko my parents bought me when I was a teen. Thing lasted forever it seems.

Around 2005 I bought a Movado. Had always wanted one, but wasn't willing to shell out thousands for a watch. Well, finally gave in and bought one.

A few years later the battery went dead. Went to get the battery changed and found I had to get it changed at a jewler with a vacuum chamber. That or send it back to Movado. There's not a lot of places local with that equipment (just from phone book searching) and it's all well over $100 just to change the battery.

Since I don't hardly ever wear it - it's now sitting in a drawer never to be used again, I'd imagine. When I die, my boy will get a dang near new Movado watch. Hah.

Next watch I'm planning on getting will be one of the new Seiko watches that never needs a battery. Ever.

Stupid battery.

I have my first watch a Seiko Automatic 6309-7049 in the shop getting a new crystal, and I just got my son a used Citizen BJ2000 Eco drive. It's in the shop as well getting a new capacitor. Just got a second Seiko automatic off eBay used for $99.00. It's a newer 7S26-0029. As soon as the other 2 watches come back, this one is going in for a new crystal as well.

Do a Google search for the model of watch you want and you will find many different places selling watches besides Ebay. Compare prices and you will find a huge difference in prices. Read carefully what they promise as far as warranty and repair. Just one example of watch sellers is http://www.worldofwatches.com/
I'm not recommending this site just using it as an example.

That price may be worth it if I were to buy a $3000 watch and not a $300 watch. Would I shell out $3200 or even 3400 to buy a watch from an authorized dealer as opposed to $3000 on line? Sure I would. Would I shell out $465 when I can instead shell out $265? Hell yeah!!! It's all about economy of scale.

I think you chose the wrong word there but I get what you mean. It is also quite likely that during the warranty period there will not be any issues as Citizen does make quality products. Putting it into that perspective makes a very good point.

After searching eBay the past 2 weeks I noticed most of the vintage Seikos are coming from the Phillipines. I was a little hesitant at first. But after more research Loyes Watch repair in Manilla is first rate. He has YouTube vids showing some of his repairs . He even froze a watch in ice to show it was still waterproof and working.

If your going to shop eBay for deals. First find out what your watch sells for new Retail. Then check the buy it now prices on eBay. That way if your going for a deal and bidding, your not going any higher than what you can out right buy it for. Also always check the sellers ratings before bidding so you don't buy from a guy that has screwed people in the past.

I've had the black monster version for years and love it, but have more often been wearing this lately:

If anyone wants a black monster you should get one soon before the old style is sold out. The new style imo is not as good looking.
