I'd just suck it up and spring for a Streamlight TLR1. a lot cheaper than Surefire and very well built. I wouldn't trust my life to something of questionable quality.

I am considering a TLR-2 to put on a Glock 31 next Spring. I have no desire to spend $260 of my "shootin'" money on a light, but if it is part of a weapon system for keeping my family safe I will do it. Now if it just to look cool I guess a cheaper light might work, but maybe just spend the money on a better flashlight for your off hand? Still, if you find something that is more affordable and stands up to punishment let us know.

If you may end up depending on this to save your family's
lives,.......why be cheap & buy a POS light?
Get a Streamlight & be done with it

TLR-1s are under 100 bucks.

Streamlight. I work with Chinese products every day. Had some machine tools come it that had air lines on them. Had to change it all out over a period of months because it would just break. No stress points, no sharp edges near it, the plastic would just break. I would bet money that they had a material spec, someone found a way to save some money to put in their pocket and did not even hesitate.
China considers rules, regulations, material specifications and tolerances to be rough guidelines, a good place to start before you begin taking cost out.

I have made it a habit to not buy anything made in China.. most times its junk... spend a few dollars more and it will outlast anything made by the Chinese.. especially if you plan to use it to protect your life..

I avoid Chinese products whenever I can. Hard to do since so much stuff is only made in China.

I'd never rely on anything from China to help protect me
You said, "By the way....I have a G19 and its for home defenseprimarly."
Just my thoughts, but I'd never rely on anything from China to help protectme. Politics aside, I'm serious. If it comes down to really needing the tactlight and a G19 to properly defend your home, your life or your family, do youreally want to make that the time see if the switch is still working, that theswitch didn't open fully and thereby drained all you battery?
A reliable light comes with a price tag - no doubt. But I'd rather practicemore in dark or low light conditions than rely on a light that might no bethere when I need it.

You're overlooking Fenix Tactical Flashlights. I've been running a TK-11 for the past 3 years. It is an EXCELLENT extremely bright heavy-duty handheld light. (A full 250 lumens!)

Paid less than $100.00, too.
Look at this, 'Bad Boy': http://www.fenixlights.com/fenix-tk15-s2.html

I've got a Fenix E21 (I think that's what it is) runs on 2AAs and has a simple hi/lo setting accesed by turning the bezel a little bit. Cost me something like 30 bucks and is one of the best lights i've ever owned. My dad has two mounted on rifles that have seen lots of ammo and still running.
But I like the TLR-1 for it's ease of mounting and use in the way I use it.

Agreed. I've owned my Fenix PD 30 for nearly 3 years and it's been flawless. I also own Sure Fire and Streamlight products and rate the Fenix very highly in comparison to both.

I try to avoid Chinese stuff also, but it's tough. Especially if you shop at WalMart. My policy is about not supporting ChiComs. Can you imagine if we bought everyday items from the USSR back in the 80's?!?! Reagan woulda personally come to your house, parked his Chevy truck on your lawn and pimp-slapped you!
Bo-Tach Tactical regularly sells the Streamlight TLR1 for $89. Well worth the few extra dollars if you are betting your life on it. Only airsoft nerds run cheap Chinese tactical gear on their HD/SD guns.

I have a Nebo that I have had for maybe a year and have had attached for a couple thousand rounds now without issues. I am however of a time that somewhat predates rails and I never consider the light on the gun to be my primary light.

With due respect, I think Reagan had a Jeep
