Prayer request.
Heard some pretty sad news today. One of the guys who started about 2 years ahead of me was recently diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. It has spread to a couple of other organs. He already has had one round of chemo with more to follow every few weeks. I looked up the survival rate and it is not good. He has a wife and a couple of kids in their teenage years. He is a good guy and needs everything he can get.

Kind of like on the internet forums - People continually flip someone off who they know is obligated to not break the rules in response. Yeah, usually that type of stupidity eventually yields the rewards that are earned.
And then there are those trying so hard to be offended that they're imagining things that haven't even been said in a thread.

The department is kind of numb right now. We are going about our business but its just not the same. I think the mood will lift if he responds well and the docs give him a good prognosis.
Thinking about the kids is pretty tough. One of my clearest memories about him is when he came in on his day off with his little girl. As he walked out to the car I could see him holding her hand, taking his time.

I thought I had responded here. I didn't see my post. Know that there are prayers being said. And, yeah it is harder to deal with when there are kids involved. If it's any comfort, I am thinking that G-d knows the situation, as He is Father. I pray for the officer's eternal soul and spirit as well as that of his family. That he be restored in body, and that he be one who has already accepted the Christ, the Son of G-d.
James 5:13-20
13 Is someone among you in trouble? He should pray. Is someone feeling good? He should sing songs of praise.
14 Is someone among you ill? He should call for the elders of the congregation. They will pray for him and rub olive oil on him in the name of the Lord. 15 The prayer offered with trust will heal the one who is ill — the Lord will restore his health; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, openly acknowledge your sins to one another, and pray for each other, so that you may be healed. If it is God's will in the situation, it works. It may not be right away, but it works. It wasn't cancer, but I came back from some life threatening stuff after being annointed and having hands placed on me with prayer.
It surely can't hurt to have this done in this situation. God is bigger than any disease, and He is the great physician.
While He was on earth Jesus spent a great part of his ministry healing the sick. He is the same Jesus yesterday, today, and tomorrow.
