Color fill on my spikes lower...
Hey guys, I have a spikes lower en route, it's the spider pic with bullet markings on the left side, and an American flag on the right... And it's all color filled... I have to say that the left side looks somewhat "busy" with all those colors goin on... Is there any safe way to subdue the spider pictogram color fill (it's white) without affecting the finish of the lower? If not that's fine I'll just leave it, it's just a picky thing... Also for the stripped upper, would I be better off obtaining a spikes brand, or will any quality upper receiver give me a tight lockup? I have to admit that although I've matched uppers & lowers & replaced parts this is my first actual build from the stripped receivers...

Get a 3 cans of Krylon, one brown, one OD green, and another dark tan. Spray the entire rifle. You won't even notice the white color fill.
Fit doesn't mean a thing. Don't worry about it.
I'm coming over to your house. You must have an amazing garage in order to build ARs .

Lol it's the "man cave"... I use the space mainly for reloading, and only got into AR tinkering in the last year or so, I have to say my toolbox could use a few upgrades... What's the popular choice for stripped uppers? I found an OD green spikes upper (well, that's what the description says anyway, I'm weary about buying these things from non-distributors). I'm thinking about giving spikes a call today just to confirm they did in fact produce these. Once I get the receiver squared away I'll be bugging you guys about barrel & rail options.

Looks like someone destroyed it per ATF specs.

...and that's not a spider on your lower.
The story behind the pic is that someone bought it, it was out of spec, and he blew a gasket over the CS and cut it into pieces.

Wow!!! That is crazy... So what is the pic of? A skull? I have never owned a spikes lower, but they get wonderful reviews, and I called them earlier to ask about a stripped OD green upper, and they were very nice... I had a chance to get a Rainier arms lower, but didn't (I hear they make wonderful barrels, but hadn't heard anything on their lowers)... At any rate, thank you for your input... If mines outta spec that would suck! What lowers do you prefer?

Mine's been fine, over the last three or four years it's been on 2 BCM and a Noveske 16" midlength uppers, using it on my LR build now. Has had a few different stocks on it (ACS, CTR, and UBR), as well as a DD mil-spec trigger and Geissele SSA-E. The LPK from the initial build is DD. All parts have fit and functioned 100% in the lower.

Spikes lowers are GTG. I'm just not a fan of color fill. I tried it once myself. After getting a couple seconds into it I stopped. If it's something you like then go for it.

I'm not crazy about the color fill at all, that's why I was wondering if I could subdue the spider (or phallic) logo... I'm definitely gonna try now lol... I don't mind the flag and bullet logos
