Leading in my 625-8

I'm using Tula primers, WSF powder 5.8 grns, friendswood 230 grn lead round nose at .452 to plink. I don't have a chrono but it is the starting load. I looked at the barrel after maybe 75 rounds and to me it looks like a lot of swiped lead between the grooves. I used hoppes elite for about 6 passes and regular hoppes for about 15 passes still looks fouled up! Any help would be appreciated.

Push the patch through until just about half or a bit more of the patch exits the barrel, then pull it back, it should make a mushroom head as it doubles on it's self, when your pulling it back it will start to grab the lead, you may need to soak the barrel in some ballistol as well. May be worth slugging your barrel, it might be a tad over sized and need a wee bit bigger bullet diameter

Get the Chore-Boy and be done. It will do the job. Just make sure it is all Copper.

Get the Chore-Boy copper pads at Lowe's or Ace Hardware.
Wrap the copper strands around a used bore brush.

Yes, some pieces of a copper chore boy wrapped around you bore brush will make short work of it.

Often, leading is the result of prior fouling that was in the gun before shooting the lead. Getting it absolutely clean will likely eliminate further problems.

If it were me and my experience with 625's slug your bore and Cylinder Throats.
I have been where you are and found very oversized throats in my cylinder.
I went to .454 diameter bullets,leading disappeared. SJ 40

Some good advice on sizing - likely your issue. Check the cylinder and make sure it's not swaging them down before it hits the forcing cone....

You may be flying blind on the barrel though... I could be mistaken, but I think that barrel is going to be 5 groove. If so, you'll have a better chance of reading a chinee newspaper than measuring bore diameter.

Bullet fitr is king. If the cyl throats are small, the bore will lead. If the bullet is small for the bore, the bullet will lead. Your load is mid range, if the bullet is hard & slightly undersized, this is going to cause leading. You can try a sfter bullet or bump the powder charge, but take measurments first.

My throats ended up being oversized if only they would have been undersized,I would have ended up with .452 throats and .451 bore. Ah but S&W decided differently. SJ 40

Could I use bronze wool? Instead of copper? Copper wool is hard to find

Common w/ S&W but better slightly over size than under IME. A softer lead bullet will upset slightly as it crosses the oversize throats & then swage down as it hits the bore.

It would but make sure it is Bronze (magnet) & not plated steel. ChoreBoy is available in most grocery stores, you just may have to hit more than one chain.

If they had been undersized I would have had them reamed at .452,but the way it is she's pretty accurate with .454"s.

Just check hardware stores and get the name brand Chore Bot scouring pads,they are pure copper and will do no harm to your bore and you will not need to wonder. SJ 40

Thankfully I live in Vermont where their's a gas station on every other corner and on the other is a hardware store. One of Vermont's best gun stores in in a gas station,huge supply of fishing lures also.
I just never even thought it would be hard to locate Chore Boys.

Watch it whiskers, I'm from NJ too. The crack heads use 2 liter bottles and duct tape ya know? It's the pill pushers that use the stuff in 22s now.

I find Chore Boy works pretty good but I found it needs to be a very tight fit to be effective.

+ 1 ,the tighter fit the quicker easier job of it.
I have the Lewis lead removers from Brownells but find some strands of Chore Boy to do just as good a job much less costly.
The Chore Boy can also be wrapped around the chamber brush and be just as effective for chamber throats also. SJ 40
