Can you split a leaf?

The other day, I saw a picture frame with two panes of glass between which was a "split" leaf; by that I mean split from one side to the other, such that the leaf still looked like a leaf, but had been "split" in order to let light pass through it. Sort of like the leaf was 1/2 as thick as it was to start with.
I have no idea what kind of leaf, but it was very attractive.
Anyone know how this might have been done?

Probably a maple leaf. I heard that Chuck Norris round house kicked Canada, and the aftermath was nothing short of amazing.

Wrong. The leaves saw Chuck coming and just split.

I would try sanding it by placing it between two boards, each covered with sandpaper.
