grrrrr someone ...
keeps stealing my Romney/ryan sign at end of my driveway and they place an Obama one in place of it 
time for some trail cams . funny point - bumped into a buddy of mine in town and he said " WTF BRO YOU DRINKING KOOL AID ??
then i told him what was going on

Smear coyote urine or some other such repellant on it. Maybe some sort of smelly hunting or fishing bait. They will go home sniffing their hands wondering WTF!

I'd smear turds down the back side of it, just along the edges. I would make the pre-turd meal include eggs, dairy, corn, and any other gastric nasties I could think of for maximum fecal offensiveness.

Not this election cycle, but similar vandalism occurred repeatedly to a friend of mine. On the third iteration of replacing his sign he added next to it another: "note to trespassers vandalizing my sign - the spot on which you stand is well within range".
never happened again - could just be coincidence

Just get some red paint and paint the anti circle (circle with a bar through it.) on the Obama sign,

I got a feeling that whoever it is will just put up another. im 70% sure i know who it might be. a freaking idiot down the road who i have busted illegally hunting on my land and using leg traps which is also illegal here .
im gonna put up trail cams to see who it is , and if its him . ITS ON CUZZZ

But seriously...the mace sounds like a great idea.
You could also post a sign next to it saying that "Each time this sign is stolen I happily buy another from the Romney campaign. He thanks you for your indirect donation."

trespassing ... vandalism ... theft ... defamation of character ...
Trail cam would provide an entertaining legal recourse were you to press charges to the fullest extent the law allows and then get a creative lawyer to just make it rain things you've never even heard of during litigation.
Of course, a landmine would be much more youtube worthy.

This is the best idea. The ideas of "boobie trapping" the sign not such a good idea. There may actually be laws that would come into play if the perp gets injured.

Charge the person with every crime that will fit the act in your State, make sure it gets plenty of press. That may prevent the same act in other places......if northing else it will probably help you.

Along with the trail cam, try some clear fishing line tied to some cans in/close to the house for an alarm so you can catch them in the act.

Leave the Obama sign in place, put a big X over everything written under "Obama", and then write at the bottom: "SUCKS, AND IS A LIER".
