REI rocks.
I could have gone a lifetime without ever seeing that wedding picture.

Gotcha. Yeah, but don't you have to pay a fee to become a member of REI? I thought you at least used to.
I also went to a local store and spent an entirely ridiculous amount for really just little things (water bottle with steel cup, smartwool socks, maps, a few other little things) Holy crap I can spend a LOT of money in that place!

Friend just picked up some fancy emergency stove with USB charger from REI. It uses the heat waves to not just cook, but drive a fan to increase ventilation and combustion, and the fan also powers the USB which can be used to charge your phone. Pretty sweet.

No fee when I signed up a very long time ago.

I know what you're talking about. From what I've heard about it, though, it's not very efficient.

I must be getting it mixed up with somewhere else, then.
ETA: I just checked. Membership is $20.

Oops, guess things change. Still $20 isn't bad.

No, but I'll just get most everything from Moosejaw because I don't have to pay a membership fee. That is a lifetime membership, though, so maybe sometime.

Yeah, the REI membership is a one time lifetime fee of $20. I think there is a restriction that you have to buy something every year though. I'd have to check. But since I buy stuff, I'm all good to go.

Yeah, I've purchased from there before (a backpacking mess kit that I cannot locate right now; I think it may be at my parents' house mixed in with their camping stuff), but a membership where I HAVE to purchase something every year could be dangerous, lol.

I quit smoking..... again. One habit I cannot shake for more than a year or two at a time.

REI membership payment is once in a lifetime. It cost me $10 years ago and I made back that money several times over in the first year. The dividend needs to be redeemed within the following year, but I always find something I need or can use.
They aren't as hardcore as they used to be - ice axes and figure-eights have been relegated to a small display and trendy fashion has taken their place, but at least they haven't become Abercrombie & Fitch.

But if you check out their online store, they have a ton more stuff. I asked them about it because the boots I wanted to try weren't on the shelf. They pretty much just said that it's based on sales. They usually sell up to a certain dollar line and have a hard time selling the more expensive boots in that store so they don't stock them and just sell them online. Same thing with the various backpacks, etc.

I think that's most any outdoor store anymore. I've come to like a local store now, too. It's a chain, but it's a small, local chain (three stores).

Dammit. Found out my basic swat school got canceled. Now what am I going to do with a week off?

Face it, you weren't cut out for hair gel, elastic banded sleeves on short sleeved shirts, and 5.11 clothing.
Be happy that you aren't on call 24/7!

Can't use hair gel at all. It runs into my eyes. The foam stuff is much better.
As for being on call, too late.

I just learned the other day that I can order any Glock direct through my department with our patch and department name engraved on the slide. (just like our issued pistols) Me thinks there might be a G30s in my future!
