Small-primer .45acp

Who's brilliant idea was THAT, to start making small primer .45acp. Now, when I do range pick-up, I've gotta sort that brass too. What was the thought behind this change ?

Welcome to the modern world we live in. I firmly believe that small primer 45 ACP brass is spawn of the DEVIL. Apparently, they decided it was best to use a small primer for the "green" ammo.

It is a great idea. 9mm, 40 and 223 all use small primers. with 45 small primers all the major calibers will have standardized on one primer size.

Even .308 Palma is using small primers.

Civilization as we know it is about to come crashing down.

Well, I have been shooting .45acp for going on 30 years and it wasn't until last week I saw my first small primer case in the round. Been reloading for over 15 years. Call me late to the party but I have a real complaint here ! LOL.

It may have been around, but it sure wasn't common. I've never seen any of it, either, until the last month or so.

Just a side note to the 45ACP small primer brass:
I loaded these cases with the same charge that I use on the large primer brass which is 4.6grs of Bullseye with a 200gr X-Treme FP bullet and there was absolutely no change in the point of impact or function of the Glock G30 I was shooting them in!
I'm hearing that the most of the US ammo manufactures will be changing to the small primer brass. It seems that the modern powders now used in reloading the 45ACP do not need the the large primers to consistently ignite the powder charge.

I like them due to only having to purchase small pistol primers for most of my reloading!

Dan

I have been reloading a lot of small primer .45s since I got a real deal on 2000 and have been given several hundred by shooters that don't want them.

I also like to hear the brass whores scream when they snatch them up after a match only to see they are sp.

That would be just dandy if the major suppliers weren't all out of small pistol primers! Head over to Powder Valley and see what they have. At best, you can get Tula. Federal, CCI, Winchester and Remington are all out of stock!

There are plenty of large pistol primers for those of us who believe the .45 ACP should use them.

Richard

Exactly... It's just fabulous... Another reason small pistol primers will be constantly out of stock
