Mysterious "nub" on G17 Gen 4

I just bought a G17 Gen 4 and noticed an unusual protrusion at the rear of the frame, just below the slide. It appears to be intentional; it doesn't look like a mistake with the molding or manufacture. My G19 and G34 (both Gen 4s) do NOT have such a bump on the back. Any ideas? (See the lousy cell phone pics below.) Thanks in advance.

Cancer!

Interesting. Never seen it before. New mold I guess. Take it apart and see if it's got other new stuff.

Oh my God! It's got 36 parts!

No. Not really. Nothing added, nothing taken away. At first, I thought it might be some type of attachment point or indexing point for that "beavertail" backstrap I saw some time back, but I don't think they're even available yet.

Left over from the mold I would guess. I wouldn't worry about it.

Yup. Bought in FL. I did use a GSSF coupon so it's an LE? Maybe?

If you bought it with a GSSF coupon, it should be Blue Label which is LE.

I made a post just like this a few months ago. My dark earth gen 4 Glock 17 has this nub also. It is definitely not mold flash. It is not there by accident. I called Glock, spoke with a gentleman that confirmed from the photos I sent him that this was not some artifact from the molding process, as there is no mold injection site in this area. He told me he would investigate further and get back to me. He never got back to me, but I may follow up and see if he has found out anything. Here is the link to my thread:
