Look at it this way. Movies use guns of convenience. Even when they used the Bren Ten in Miami Vice, it was a .45 caliber conversion for blank cartridge convenience.

while it came from the second Dirty Harry movie.... even Palancio's thugs said when they saw Harry behind the warehouse that "that ain't no cop's gun" . When I started in law enforcement everyone carried revolvers in the state of Oklahoma. I knew some police, worked with a couple, that carried long barreled .44 magnum revolvers, but they were the exception, not the norm, and believe me they stood out.

And on the other hand, no one would have really know that Sonny Crockett was carrying a 10mm pistol if it hadn't been mentioned in the script several times, I could have been just about any stainless large frame automatic.

Harry didn't even carry a .44 mag in the 1st movie !
There were no 29's avaliable, so they subbed a 57 (.41 mag) and nobody knew the difference. The hole was obviously bigger than a .38 cal. so the deception worked.
Sure made it hard to find a 29 ANYWHERE after that !

ps if you look CLOSE, you notice that depending on the scene, it switches from a 6 1/2" bbl to an 8 3/8" bbl !

Blood Diamond. Leonardo DiCRAPrio carries a g30 early in the flick. Tell yourself it's a G29 and you're good to go. Nobody should be in Africa without a 10mm anyway.

They can't use a 10mm in a film, because even firing a blank cartridge in it makes it act like a small nuclear bomb and it would wipe out the film crew.

10mm`s are to Powerful to use as "movie guns" it will cost them a fortune for "special-effects" to shoot someone and make it realistic............so they use the regular guns.

Oh now don't be a hater..... Besides, can you even buy 460 Rowland in a store? My local gunshop at least stocks 10mm, I even found some at the Cripple Creek convenience store. Bet he doesn't have any 460 Rowland.

Those that stock Corbon and Buffalo Bore might have 460 Rowland on the shelf. Of course, in order to get "real" 10mm Auto -- you're not going to find it at the average sporting goods store or gun shop either. For what they have in stock, you might as well shoot 40 S&W...

Ammo isn't a problem -- you just have to know where to look for it...just like the "good" stuff for 10mm...

All the 10mm I currently have was bought at a gunshop, some of it is doubletap from way back when. I guess that gets to the rub, if you have a cooperative LGS, you can get them to stock your favorite brand.

All Dirty Harry info. in this thread is accurate AFAIK. My question is why not have used a .45 Colt? They need a remake with S&W 500!

Anyone else like to see a 7 shot 44 mag X frame? Or even better, a 7 shot 10mm N frame! It would work if the 8 chamber .357 N frame does (added it up on calculator) and would be stronger even with notches in between chambers as opposed to on top of...

I'd buy a 5" full lug unfluted even with the Hillary Hole. Maybe ream to 10mm Mag and launch some HST 180's @ 1700?

The old Corbon 180 lead soft point did 1325. Those were the best you could get off the shelf back then. They probably still make it but too expensive. 10-12 years ago it was a buck a pop and was prohibitively expensive (for me at least) for anything other than a mag full for the truck and occasional hog.

Yeah, that sounds pretty cool. For SD, 10mm or 45 Super will be my limits and I'm not scared of some recoil. NOTHING beats a revolver in SA for hunting though. Since you're set for Rowland in semi auto SD platforms, I'd consider a 625 with reamed chambers and a trigger job for hunting or a "reach out and touch someone (with a cannonball)" HD/truck gun. No worries about it handling the abuse.

Questions, is a comp a necessity even with a longer barrel? Have you launched any 45 Super with stock barrel and heavier recoil spring? What # spring do they suggest for Rowland and Super respectively in a G21? Any idea if M&P's are approved for either?

Underwood sells powerful 460 Rowland for $44/50rds. Georgia Arms is by far the better value (when they have it in stock) at $31-40 per 50.

I run 45 Super out I a stock XDS (no comp). The comp is only needed for the 460 Rowland - to momentarily delay slide unlocking until the pressure decreases, and to reduce slide velocity.

Apparently the guy in that movie Faster with the Rock carried a G20 with a Carbon fiber pattern frame.
