I did a search and looked into a few recommendations already, but it really seems like there's a lack of options until one's budget get's into the $1400 range - like a TRP.

Anyway, for my budget, it looks like STI Trojan and Sig TTT/other variants might provide the best value in a new pistol. Let me know of any other suggestions in this price range. The application is primarily a range gun. Thanks in advance.

Colt Combat Elite - I like the 2 tone look and you can't really go wrong with a Colt.

The Ruger 1911's are pretty nice guns for the money. Haven't heard anything bad about them.

Under $1,000 look at the Sig line of 1911's. I've heard nothing but good things and went and bought one for myself about 2 months ago. Its pushing 800 rounds today and has been flawless--even with my reloads, VERY accurate, and has most of the features most anyone could want.

How can there be a lack of options for M1911s under $1400?

The Filipino guns alone are probably three dozen different models between the three manufacturers. Not to mention the Ruger, Remington, cheaper SWs, Colts, Springfields.

I have a springfeild loaded SS an I will take it over a kimber or colt the action an just the whole gun is smooth an i got it for under a 1000$ down here in south Louisiana. Actually was at the range yesterday afternoon an the range officer didn't believe it was a out the box 1911 he thought I got the action an trigger polished because it was to smooth. Good luck finding one buddy

You can't go wrong with either one, Springfield TRP or Sig. The true cost of your purchase, when viewed over the expected lifetime of the firearm, is very little.

For 1K$ you can get a series 70 Colt's or a Springfield RO.

Roooooogers need a lot of work out of the box to be usable. After the time and money to get one running correctly, you've got a cast frame with cast parts on your hands.

Start with a forged gun that is better fitted and more durable. Colt's or Springfield.

Experience shows there's nothing wrong with cast frames, in fact I don't think you can provide any overwhelming evidence that Ruger or someone like Caspian, have had significant problems with them.

Dunno what you mean by "cast parts" on your hands relative to Colt and Springfield.

I'm not knocking a Colt or Springfield, but Rugers are really well built no BS 1911s for the money.

Kimber TLE would be a good choice in the 1K price range and comes with the options that are usually most sought out on a 1911 (night sights, front strap checkering, single side safety)

I agree. Pretty much anything Ruger makes is put together well and reasonably priced.

Thanks for the suggestions and helping me find other options. I'm going to start checking around to see if any shops have one or more of my prospects to look at and handle.

I'm also adding P220 stainless to my list.

I've owned Rugers for over 50 years..sent exactly ONE[1] back for service to date. They build good stuff based on my experience, stand behind their products and represent good value for their price point.

Ruger uses an investment casting process for their manufacturing of slide and frame. Colt, Springfield and some others use a forgings for the same parts. While investment castings are far better than long ago I am not convinced they are as strong as a forged piece of steel. Call me old fashioned.

For the record I have owned a few Rugers and found them to be excellent firearms for the price. Like it or not a Colt 1911 will hold its resale value better than Ruger.

^^^^^ that's because of the NAME " COLT" but I do agree with the fact that I don't put as much trust in a cast gun
