replacement 1911 mag followers and springs
I am looking at replacing the mag springs and followers on my old Colt 1911 mags and would like to get some ideas of what to replace them with. I know much has changed in mag followers and springs over the last 20+ years and I know factory ones are probably different also.

I second that, I've liked Tripps better than anything else I've tried.

There are those who say the original design with pimple is best and that you should only put some new heavy duty springs under your stock followers. Wolff gottum.

I just got my Tripp Research springs and followers and they work great. the spring is nice and stiff and the follower design makes it very stable. I can see why they have such good reviews everywhere.
thanks.

Yes. I've used the Tripp kits in McCormick magazines and they've worked great. The converted CMC magazines work every bit as well as original Tripp magazines. Of course, they're not as durable as Tripp magazines and are more prone to deforming due to the rigors of a match than are Tripp bodies. But, if you don't step on them, the CMC mags with Tripp kits work great.
I don't know if the same applies to Colt's magazines. I've never put Tripp kits in any of my Colt's magazines. Seems like a sow's ear into a silk purse kind of deal to me.

I put the T.R. springs and followers in my Wilson mags and just going to use the Colt mags as range mags. the T.R. follower is much more stable than the Wilson and the spring is stiffer than the new springs I bought for my Wilsons. I have been to the range and went throught a bunch of 230grn Gold Dots and HSTs, also a couple of boxes of G.D. 200grn +Ps with not one failure.
