Sig Tac Ops vs. Doublestar?
Got the hornies for a railed 1911. Don't have a clue as to why? I hope it's just a passing phase, but I've been eyeing these two for a almost a year. Found, what I think, is a pretty good deal on a Tac Ops. And I've yet to even hold a Doublestar, but I've heard good things. The Sig feels great in my hands. I'm not much of a Sig fan, especially their newer stuff. But I will say that I have a lot of respect for the older Sigs though. Kinda like HK, I don't personally care for the look and feel of most Sigs and HK's, but I know they both make great guns. Used to own an HK USP 40 BTW and have shot my share of Sigs of many different models, other than their 1911's. I've heard good and bad, mostly good, on both the Tac Ops and the DS. But there's good and bad to almost any gun, especially production guns. Which would you pick and why? Thanks.

I much prefer the Doublestar, Joe.
It feels great in hand and no MIM parts. Hopefully that's still the case, anyway.
You should get the Doublestar just to have something different.

The doublestar will be my next gun. I've been meaning to buy one for a bit. It's a must since I'm from KY (that's where they're made).

I may hold out for the Doublestar, but the Sig sure looks tempting and is a pretty good deal.

True, but I've got too many iron's i the fire for a GC American. Plus, I'm not enough of a rail gun fan to spend that kind of money on one.

When the Doublestars first came out they seemed to be really nice guns or the examples I held were. One came through our local shop recently I was NOT impressed for the money. Dunno if it was made at 5pm on Friday or what. For $1100 ish I'd honestly go with a Warrior, TRP, Colt, or DW. For under $1K I dunno that the Sig can be beat, you can find that Tac Pac for $799.

I had a Sig XO with a rail and while I don't like rails on 1911's that thing was a shooter. It was very accurate and without doubt the softest shooting 1911 I have ever fired. I own several 1911's but was very supprised with this pistol.

Ive always liked the Doublestar, but if QC is down, I would want to hold one first - or just look for a lower serial. I know you are TRP strong, but what about a TRP Operator? - I like the full rail version. I havent ever been a Sig fan but for the money I would give it a look if just for something to play around with. You know I bought a NN rail gun and would highly recommend you go that path!

Hell Joe - Since its going for a ride anyway, just buy the Colt Rail Gun and use it as your base.

Very true.
I think Colt's make the best base guns for a build.
I'm not sure Joe is doing a whole lot to it though.

I've got some land to sell you too. It might not go out on Day 1, but I can just about guarantee that if it stays in the Glock2740 household, it will at some point be hard chromed with a flush cut /reverse crowned barrel and a 3 holed trigger installed.

I agree about the Colt base gun thing and since I'm not much of a rail gun fan anyway, I don't even know how long I'd keep it.

Brandon does have a point though and knows me pretty well. If I did like it, it probably wouldn't stay stock for long...

You could always get a non-railed Doublestar later, Joe.

I like everything about the TRP Operator, except for the rear sights. And I don't know if I'll ever like railed 1911's enough to go down the rabbit hole on one with GC. That is a bad mofo you got though.
