Great post. I would like to hear what the true believers have to say about this. I suspect they will dodge the issue entirely.

Another childish and immature attack on the word of God by taking the Bible entirely out of context.

Yes, the bible is full of contradictions. Many more contradictions than any of you Godless heathens might imagine.

Bible contradictions prove nothing, except that God is flexible in his dealings with man.

The Bible was written by more than 30 authors over a 1500 year time span. Many of the books are written from the authors point of view, while others are just interpretations of previous events.

There are bound to be contradictions, but the central theme of the Bible remains intact.

JB-

So, religious people who claim the bible was inspired by god, and therefore is the same as the word of god, are wrong? That will probably come as news to them.

You will deny it, but you are saying the interpretation of the bible is subjective. That's what "written from authors point of view" and "just interpretations of previous events" means.

Then, what does that say about the reliability of *anything* written in the bible?

Self contradictory, mutually exclusive, with both sides being totally correct are only a problem in the realm of science, not theology.

This is from www.christiananswers.net. Who is right, you or them?

However, classic Christianity rests on the assurance that the Bible is completely accurate. It may contain statements that are (1) figures of speech, (2) non-technical descriptions, or (3) difficult to understand. But actual errors would fall into a different kind of category. If there are any errors in Scripture, no matter how small, the book can no longer be our standard of truth. I become the standard of truth, as I determine which Bible statements are right and which are wrong. And if I can't trust God to get the facts straight on things like dates and measurements (where I can check on Him), why should I expect Him to be more accurate in areas like sin and salvation (where I can't check on Him)?

Actually though, I don't see the conflict. Any errors get attributed to figures of speech or non-technical descriptions.

Sort of like the whole 6,000 year old earth nonsense and earth being the center of an immovable universe. The Church issues a statement "See, what happened was" or "These aren't my pants" and moves on.

Those concepts are lost on most posters on this forum.
They only accept the laws of science and physics.

They either have no concept of, or choose to completely ignore the possibility of an existence beyond the boundaries of this physical world.

Their examination of the Bible, and religion, is designed to disprove the Bible. They'll never accept any explanation, no matter how convincing it might be.

When they finally stand before God, I have no doubt they'll ask him for two forms of ID to prove who he is.

You can't ignore what there is no evidence for. Do you chose to ignore the pink unicorn sitting on your head right now? Why do you dismiss that possibility?

That's the sheer genius of God's plan for mankind.
The lack of evidence is deliberate, and just might be a test.

If God appeared today and gave us unquestionable proof of his existence, the entire world would fall to it's knees and worship him.

But, if he expects us to believe in him based only on faith, then how much stronger is that faith than those who demand proof?

Atheists demand proof of God's existence.
All I ask of God is forgiveness for my sins.

There is a big, big difference between those two requests.

Sounds just as compelling as this guy.

Guess you missed the boat. Maybe next time Hale-Bopp comet comes around you can meet God.

Science, nature, and the laws of the universe. That's right. Things for which there actually is evidence.

Everything you're talking about is just warm, fuzzy make believe.

I actually care whether or not what I believe is true.

The writers if the bible make blind stupid faith a virtue that pleases their invented god because they know they're full of crap. "It's better to believe out of fear than know for sure." They might say.

The only contradictions I have found are peoples lack of understanding and research. The Bible always explains itself.

The Bible does not ask believers to have blind faith. The "faith of a child" is based on his/her knowledge that if Dad tells them to jump he will catch them because a) he has not given them reason to believe he will let them fall, and b) he loves them. My kids have faith in me because of these things, not because they are to stupid to know any better.

So the evidence is the fact that there is no evidence and the inconsistencies in the Bible are proof of it's infallibility? Ever read Alice in Wonderland?

To make such a statement is proof you have not searched the scriptures for the answers to so called inconsistencies. The Bible always proves itself. 1thess. 5:21 prove all things.

There's plenty of evidence, but you'll never accept it unless it meets your requirements and on your terms.

The Bible doesn't work that way.
Neither does God.

The Bible is life's instruction book.
It's too bad you and a few others here can't follow simple instructions.
