Well, HK45 finally made the rotation for a range trip yesterday. I loaded up one of my favorite Glock loads:
- Hornady 230 gr. FMJ
- Hodgdon Longshot 7.3 gr.
- 1.230" OAL
- WLP (I am trying to finish out this batch...I prefer CCI)
The recoil was a bit more stout with the HK45 compared to the G21 Gen4, but the gun ran fine, and there were no malfunctions. The brass didn't even make the tarp--it was ejected past the far edge! I suppose that with all the posts I've been looking at recently, the ejection patterns/BTF problems/etc. have been on my mind while I'm at the range.
I'd been shooting 9x19 (SIG Sauer M11-A1; G19 Gen4 w/APEX) before I switched over to the HK45, and the Evil Roy targets were ringing, but not like when I shot that first .45ACP round at one. Grouping was good at 15 yds. with that load I listed above, and I have to say that it was more satisfying to hear a .451" projectile smacking the targets than a .355"
Spoke with the neighborhood Class III FFL (literally, in the same neighborhood) and was told that he'd received a bunch of Beretta 92FS units which were used in a training class. Some were looking pretty roughed up, but I walked away with this gem, which doesn't look like it had been fired at all:
Overall, a pretty good day in my book.
