remington R1
Today I walked into the gun store and dropped down payment on 1. Its going to be 680 out the door and he threw in a box of 50 rounds for it. Hopefully I did goof for my first 1911.

you did. i have one and i LOVE mine. its my only 1911 as well...and just a plinker for me, but its been 100percent and is very accurate. plus its very pretty. i like how it has the new features to make it run well(beveled port, big dot sites, match grade bushing) but it still has the look of the old ww1 type remington rand 1911s. im suprised it doesnt get more love.

You didn't goof. Its a great entry level 1911.
The only thing I don't like is the firing pin safety, but it is what it is. Its not a big deal

It really has no relation to WWII Remington Rand 1911A1s.
Remington last built 1911s in the WWI era.

I held a springfield at the store. I loved the way it felt in my hand.

He had it priced at 945, but he is pretty fair about talking about pricing.

He spent about an hour looking at his suppliers to see if he could get any of the others that I asked him about before we settled on the R1

When the R1 first came out did it have problems that have been addressed? Looking the firearm up it seems to have a lot of bad comments on other forums

Congrats on the 1911. I have one also and carry it all the time. I also have a Springfield RO. Watch out, they get addictive. Those are my two .45acp guns and then of course I had to get a 9mm so I got an STI Spartan in 9mm. That led to a GSG in .22lr. I guess I will have to look at a 38 Super now! Maybe even a Coonan in .357mag.

I saw one in a gun store for $659, which is a little cheaper than Cabelas and Academy. It has a little R medallion on the right grip, which I have seen on some photos of the gun, and not on others.
Anyone know if that indicates something about the time of manufacture, ie. is that on the centennial edition or something?

I have a two toned R-1 with the stainless slide. Great looking pistol, and shoots better than I can.
