Federal appeals court tosses state ban on carrying concealed weapons
Quote:
In a huge win for gun-rights groups, a federal appeals court in Chicago on Tuesday tossed the state’s ban on carrying concealed weapons and gave Illinois’ Legislature 180 days to craft a law legalizing concealed carry.
“The debate is over. We won. And there will be a statewide carry law in 2013,” said Todd Vandermyde, a lobbyist for the National Rifle Association.

It's about time, I'm curious to see if the violent crime rate goes down. I suspect it will......

Nice.
Wonder if this will apply to NY as well?

Probably not. Total ban is unconstitutional, restrictions are allowable.
Look for an even more restrictive carry law in IL than NYC, if I had to guess.
Although I bet some counties would pass reasonable rules if the state lets them, or can't stop them because of this ruling until they pass a state wide law.

Don't hold your breath on IL CCW just yet. I'm betting the legislature will find a way to weasel out of it. But at least maybe residents will be able to legally carry around their own property finally.

Of course they will... It's Chicago. The namesake of "the Chicago way" and "Chicago politician".
Cue Shark and yet another one of his ridiculous gif's...

A federal court that understands the very plain and clear language of the second amendment. Best story I've read in a long time. My faith in the constitution is restored.

Yeah, you're probably right. I didn't think about it that way.
Oh well.
Even though I'm sure IL will pass some ridiculous standards that have to be met to obtain a CCW permit, at least this is a small step in the right direction for them.
